Thread: Volkswagen Plans Eight Premieres for Frankfurt

  1. 08-08-2007 12:43 AM #1

Eight debuts are kind of a big deal. Well, six of them are BlueMotion diesel models, but the Tiguan will be an all-new offering and a hinted-at prototype referred to as "City Expert" from this Australian VW press release alludes to a concept car.

That one sounds like the small-engined, rear-engined car designed for the south/east Asian market.

I don't know but they are planning on selling half of the passats they do now, and replacing the other half with the 4 door coupe's

    it's crazy talk I say

VW has a significant history of scrapping cars that were planned for US sale (some of them should be considered "concepts").

    MkIII Golf TDI "concept"
    B5 Passat TDI "concept"

    and last but not least...

    New Scirocco "concept"

VW is focusing less on the US market due to fierce competetion.

Not really sure, which is why I'm interested in the "primier" or some official info from VW. VOA apparently recently announced to dealers that it would be coming to the US during '08; Frankfurt had been rumored as the venue of introduction.

I think the "point" would be 4-door Passat, but with more aggressive performance and styling, including a slightly modified body shape. I personally hope it means the return of a nicely appointed Passat with a stick, but I'm not holding my breath.

I would much rather see a new Golf/Rabbit than a Passat coupe or minivan.

Yet MORE gas sucking SUV's....25 years no Scirocco.

  23. 08-08-2007 06:28 PM #23
    How about a Rabbit TDI?

  24. 08-08-2007 07:04 PM #24
The Tiguan is far from a gas sucking SUV. It probalby has some of the most fuel efficient engines available. Hoping that the other VWs in Euorpe get the new common rail diesels as those should get the same fuel economy as the Bluemotion ones without any gimmicks.

  25. 08-08-2007 07:15 PM #25
RE: Rabbit TDI <-- this is a Europe show - they already have diesel Golfs.

RE: Scirocco v. "Gas sucking" SUV <--- the bluemotion version will probably equal or beat the mileage of the old Scirocco. Oh snap.

RE: Passat Coupe <--- probably a reasonable market they are missing out on - considering sales of the Solara, Accord Coupe, upcoming Altima Coupe etc. A sleek and sexy hidden 4-door design would be interesting.

RE: Facelifted Golf/Rabbit <-- Should be coming sometime soon...rumour is the MkVI will be a refreshed MkV rather than a wholey new chassis etc.

VW's ship is still zig-zagging towards North America...unsure if they're going to land or not...
