Make no mistake: The Koreans are coming, and RWD Hyundais are just the start. When former Audi/VW designer Peter Schreyer went to ply his trade at Kia (spelled V-A-N-I-L-L-A), we knew something was afoot. And so it is, as can be seen in the first teaser photo of the Sports Coupe Concept the company plans to reveal at the Frankfurt Show in September.

It's nice in profile. But the photo is ID'd as a "Skoda Fabia".

OK, this is now the third Kia concept referred to as "the first" design from Peter Schreyer;
per Auto Express, the first was the Excee'd cabrio [ http://kiaworld.blog.com/1922755/ ]
then last month it was the "TT Fighter" concept [ http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3344435 ]
and now this, unless this "Sports Coupe Concept" is the "TT Fighter" <?>...
whatever the truth, i think Kia scored hiring this guy!

I could see that being a BIG hit in the Euro market.I say again, I think Kia is making a major error in not finding a way to bring the Cee'd here (albeit with a different name). I think could cause an entirely different realm of buyer to enter their showrooms.

I agree with you on hiring Schreyer. It should pay off. There are just certain designers out there who fully get building out great proportions with strong brand language. We all have our favorites, and Peter should certainly be among them.

George...you have no idea how this kills me! I'm a car designer.Kia is doing a better job of designing Sciroccos than VW is! (even tho the designer is imported!)
(So is Nissan).I applaud the Koreans...it's been a long time coming...but they've arrived.

Yeah, the're making really ballsy moves and it's great to watch as an auto enthusiast.
Funny thing about hiring... you still need to let them implement their designs. Ford has a ridiculously talented team of designers, but a lot of their end market product seems a bit uninspired... at least for domestic products from Ford, Lincoln and Merc.

Ford needs a cloned version of Bob Lutz to get their designers out of whatever funk they're in lately and start producing wonderfulness again. They CAN do it.I agree that Kia seems to be afire with creativity and fresh thinking these days. Bully for them. It's fun to watch a former backbench carmaker come alive.

I'm guessing it's not a funk, but a beuracracy. Lutz makes it happen. Does Ford have such an action figure?

The rumor is that Mays is just terrible to work for, and that Freeman Thomas is so miserable, he's desperate to jump ship to Kia to work with Schreyer and Tom Kearns, Kia's head of the California studios. Kearns, you may recall, was in charge of the original CTS.
