I had a roommate in college, Iowa Dan, who happened to be an engineering student. At a party once, he tried to pick a girl up by talking about the high strength-to-weight ratio of titanium, and how it is the metal of the future. In pure embarassment, I walked away pretending I didn't know him, but it didn't work. The girl came up to me later, looking for Dan to tell her more about titanium.

Land Rover is taking the same approach to picking up new buyers for the LR2, adding the new HSE trim level that features, along with 19-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and body-color door sills, titanium (-painted) door handles. The HSE, according to managing director Phil Popham, "offers subtle changes for those customers seeking a slightly different look to their LR2." Other than those differing looks, the HSE will be essentially the same as any other LR2 when it goes on sale in November. We'll see how many buyers the titanium will pick up.

Howzabout a stripper with cloth seats, a diesel, and some skidplates?

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I don't see that as a bad thing since it actually looks pretty damn good.

HSE is just the higher trim level. It means High Specification Edition.
LR has always used HSE as a trim moniker.

Having said that, I don't know if these are selling that well. A few years back I bought a Freelander and got a great deal on it. It was a year end leftover. Paid $20K for it brand spanking new with 3 miles on the odometer. It was a great car. Got me hooked on Rovers and now I drive a Range Rover Sport.

Someone mentioned a stripper model with skid plates..
Mine was a semi-stripper. It had the best gortex vinyl high tech plastic seats that can be hosed off. It had skid-plates which made changing the oil a bitch and convertible top.. 3 years later, I traded it in and got $16K for it. I love those seats. I would say it is the best non-leather material. It was called Technical Fabric.

Hmm. I should check my Rover dealer come December and see if they have $8,000 rebates on these things. Hmmm.

Ford Flex anyone? At least Ford will keep a little Land Rover with it after the nameplate is sold.
