Boring?
Its a mass-produced econobox targeting a very broad market segment.... How much more exciting are you expecting a mid-cycle facelift to be?
#5
It's a family car. What did you expect, circa-1985 Lamborghini styling cues?

I like the previous one + the new one.Handsome hatch either way.
The USA one sucks styling-wise.

^^ that could be said for many American a-b cars. iam a fan of the focus though... wonder if the 2.3 will be offered in the us bound cars.

I think this looks okay, the old one was better though. I think the mk 2 Focus is generally one of the better looking cars in its class.

I'm not sure how it is in Australia, where the OP apparently comes from, but here in Germany, Facelift (in english!) is the term most commonly used for a midcycle refresh. There isn't a German word with exactly the same meaning, so when facelifts started to appear, the/an english word was used for it. Might be the same some where else. The word facelift seems fitting, too, trying to make someone old younger (sometimes with questionable results).
#12
And meanwhile, for the exact same development cost, we're stuck with that crapgasmic "new" (old) Focus. Siiiigh.
It's a Jeep thing. I understand now.

Personally, I really like the mk2 focus. I think the facelift looks good. It's been said before and I'll say it again, this is a mass market car not a porche. And you know what? I'd still hit it.
Current: '05 STi (Stage 2), '73 240Z (Jackstand queen, L28 swapped)
Past: '87 XR4Ti, '01 Jetta VR6

To my eyes, the current European Focus has a clean and integrated look that is v. appealing. I don't see what the problem is, really.

i def see some volvo. i like.

If that's a letdown, the US Focus must be a kick in the juevos. I personally like it.

I laugh at the feature content a boring little Focus has. Feature content that Ford can't even imploy on a $40,000+ luxury crossover (also known as the MKX)![]()

Sure, but in Ford's defense the update to the US Focus wasn't expected to cost what it did. It's after the fact that we know that it cost just as much.

Not to mention that update was supposed to lumber around for a lot longer than 2010.

Here's the quote from my wife after I showed her the pics & told her about the engine:"Dude, if that car was available in the states, I would consider getting one."
"And you know how much I love my car."She's driven the current US Focus & has mentioned how she's happy that we didn't get one. She really disliked it.
Ford, you originally brought the Focus to the US market to give us a european style small car. Every refresh of the Focus here seems to be a step away from that direction. Why change a winning concept?

The current 07 Focus can still put a grin on my face in the twisties eve in rental guise![]()

Very interesting - I find it odd that people think a human with their eyes yanked back to an improbable degree is supposed to make said person look younger. This mid-life facelift is apparently to designed to capture that "magic" and I'd say it has done so successfully. Unfortunately.
Not a great pic, but just to remind everyone how it all started:

That's an explanation though and not an excuse. Shame on Ford for mis-estimating it. A car company that's been in business that long shouldn't be that far off.

There is nothing wrong with that car. It's clean, sporty, and high quality. As a matter of fact, I'm amazed at the difference in quality between Ford Europe and Ford USA. European Fords are better in every conceivable way. They are better to look at, better to drive, much more reliable, and better quality inside and out.
And Ford wonders why their sales have been tanking every year for six straight years. I mean, just look at that "new" 08 Focus to realize how clueless the US Ford division is.

Someone brings this up anytime a thread regarding the Focus comes up, but I've never seen any substantiated proof regarding it.

if ford would bring that version of the Focus to the US... i wouldn't be driving a VW thats for sure...

My girlfriend's sentiments were nearly identical. She loves her current ZX5, but she fell hard for the European models while we were over there. She saw an ST on the road and she couldn't stop talking about it.
