As much as I want to like the car, and as much as I like the normal R8, I can't seem to get too excited about this car, except for the powertrain, which, in itself is exciting. But, the execution of the car just turn me off a bit. The front is horrifying, although, i'm sure its functional. I really don't see how there is that much of an increase in airflow with this versus the regular R8. And, the roof, well, i'm sure it could have been done better. Perhaps something that afforded more visibility. I can't help but think they could have made greater use of lexan in the ducts to give the car more rearward visibility.

Not to mention, the interior seems overdone with those seats. And, it looks like it would be tomb-like...with little outward visibility, exterior light, and all that somber black.

Love how they put effort into differentiating the design of the diesel R8. I especially love the canopy. Stunning stuff.

I think its great that they made it so different than the regular version. They could have just threw the engine in there with no effort, but to make the TDI so different, I think its great, especially because it looks amazing.

I think I could take everything you said, and its the complete opposite of what Im thinking about the car. Not saying that to knock you at all because everyone has their own opinion. I think everything that seperates this from the original makes it look so much more bad ass and appealing. I love the roof and the duct just for the fact that I think it looks cool and I cant say ive seen any other car with that setup. As for the seats, I seen a few people saying its too flashy or whatnot, but I like it. Its like its own pattern.

What would the roof intake do when it rains?

    This is HUGE!

Not only is this car absolutely stunning to look at, it shows the world and specifically the USA, that diesel has a bright future in automobiles.

The R8 TDI looks very much like a supercar I would drive everyday.

    First up on the ordering list;

    1) Darth Vader (special black/black edition)

    2) Batman (Matte black/carbon edition)

    3) The Transporter (when not "transporting" - Darth's version)

    4) Jesus Christ (pearl white/white edition)

    Yeah, I'm in LOVE!!

Also, you might want to check the caption on that gallery. Last I checked, it's 2008, not 2007.

looks good, but 0 - 60 of 4.2 seconds is a little disappointing.

Not to nitpick (ok, I am actually trying to) but it's 0-62 in 4.2 seconds.

Of note is that Audi quoted a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds for the normal R8 while Motortrend managed a time of 4.1 seconds 0-60mph. Thus, I'm guessing the V12 version will be mid to high 3's in similar hands.

What level of acceleration would you consider adequate? LOL.

In different pictures the front end looks good and bad to me, not that I don't like it but I prefer the regular R8 front...everything else is pure sex

First, I have to say I'm very gratified and delighted that Audi has pushed for a V12 TDI R8, and with manual tranny (!! ).

Anyway, the 0-62mph time might be misleading regarding performance, because of gearing/redline considerations. It may be the case that there's an extra gear shift with the TDI compared to the FSI.

well the porsche 911 gets like what 0 - 60 in 3.5 or something along those lines. And the r8 right now is in the 911 turbos price range, so i'm guessing this v12 tdi will be a good move up in price than the last r8, yet still won't match the 911's acceleration.....

Can you imagine the stressless life of a 4500rpm redline and 911 Turbo performance?

I would hit it like there was no tomorrow

And AUDI's driver is still going to get annoyed on that road trip, where Porsche will stop every 100miles to fill up.

    The car is absolutely amazing!!!

I never liked the 4.2 R8, it was just soooo boring. This one on the other hand is worthy of the 6 figure price tag.

anyone notice the gear shift pattern on the shifter and how it doesnt match the actual gate.

    how do they overlook this.

    In-gear acceleration times (30-50, 30-70, 50-70, 50-90) will destroy the gasser.

They missed an opportunity to show off the bloodline. They could've made the side blade red CF, to match the colour sceme of the R10.
