A man who had been pulled over and ticketed by police ran backward up and onto a Buffalo Grove squad car Friday morning, apparently in his haste to drive off.

Henry Raskin, 70, of Niles had been pulled over by a Buffalo Grove officer on the 400 block of Dundee Road around 11:30 a.m. Friday for driving 58 mph in a 35 mph zone, Sgt. Scott Kristiansen said.

The officer wrote the ticket and returned to the car, and Raskin got ready to drive away. Except he went flying backward.

"(He) apparently was going to pull away at a high rate of speed, but the only problem was that he was in reverse," Kristiansen said.

He said Raskin was not happy about getting a ticket. He said police are reviewing the squad car videotape to see what Raskin might also be charged with.

I'd love to be able to replay this guy's thoughts for those couple seconds leading up to impact. My guess is they'd go something like this:

"****ing pig. I can't believe he gave me a ticket. Everybody goes 60mph on this stretch... ****ing mother****ing **** ****er ****..."

    *Puts car in gear*

    "****ing **** ****er I'm so ****ing pissed **** **** **** ****.."

    *Nails the gas*

"What the ****? Oh **** me..."

    *Bam!*

backing over a police car (including the push bar as previously stated) without any visible signs of damage? i'd definitely call those skillz

The only thing that really surprised me was that this was a Camry and not an Avalon.

That is hilarious. But how did the squad car get damaged when the Camry apparently hasn't?

How is that even possible? Shouldn't the bumpers line up, or did the bar on front of the cop car allow the Camry to mount it (and therefore wouldn't it be extremely dangerous if a cop car ran into the back of a parked vehicle)?

  24. 05-28-2008 01:56 PM #24

I guess the bar acted like a ramp or 'speed bump'

I'd say he must have stomped the accelerator so hard that there was some significant reverse squatting, lifting the rear bumper.

I'm wondering now about the cop's reaction, sitting in the car watching the Camry do a bonzai charge and mount his windshield.

Must be one of those new, witty Toyota ads...
On the driveway: 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle TDI (A4)
    In the garage: 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro (B6)

Sorry, I can't think of anything witty for my signature.
