Quote, originally posted by World Car Fans » The new Hyundai Equus has been unveiled in advance of its Geneva release. Hyundai showed off the Equus to several dozen journalists, releasing a few photos to boot. Hyundai's luxury sedan hit the market in the late 1990s as a Mitsubishi-designed executive vehicle, that was also sold in Korea as a limo. It was not a worldwide vehicle, having been sold mainly in Korea, parts of the Middle East, and China, with a few exported to Europe. The vehicle received a facelift in 2003.
The new generation Equus has two engine choices, including a 3.8-liter V6 and a 366 horsepower 4.6-liter V8. At the event, they compared the power figures with the Lexus LS460L and the Mercedes-Benz S350L. Brimming with confidence, they even let journalists test drive all three cars at their own event, just to demonstrate the Equus' abilities to compete with more established luxury sedans. Some of the available equipment will include LED-lined headlights, oversized fog lights, dual exhaust, lane assist, a new computer system that analyzes data from the entire chassis, and pre-crash seatbelts.
The new Hyundai Equus will now have a further reach, likely getting a U.S. launch as the Genesis Prestige. It is expected to receive the attention of the worldwide media at the Geneva Motor Show. At the same time, it goes on sale in Korean dealerships as of 3 March.

I hope no one is seriously insinuating that the Equus is an intentional copy of the Buick since the 2 vehicles were designed around the same time. In fact, there have been spy shots and teaser shots of the Equus on the net for about 9 months now.

Hyundai hints at U.S. sales of Equus as 'Genesis Prestige'http://english.ohmynews.com/ar..._no=1
Quote, originally posted by Oh my news International » Hyundai unveiled Equus, its flagship luxury sedan to over 80 journalists Tuesday. Korean car mania though will have to be content with a Hyundai's single news photo release that shows only the right half of it. Earlier, Hyundai had released a couple of artistic renderings of Equus this January, which sported voluptuous sculpted lines flowing from a large front grill to elegant rear lamps as well as oversize wheel and tire. Codenamed VI, Equus replaces its earlier model introduced exclusively to Korean market more than 10 years ago. Equus has since remained as the Korea's Lincoln Town Car, sold either as a chauffeur-driven prestige sedan or a stretched limo.
But this time Equus will be launched in US market, potentially branded as Genesis Prestige, Hyundai teased, capitalizing on a series of favorable reviews Genesis has garnered recently. Genesis, Hyundai's mid-size luxury sibling of Equus was launched last year in North America and was voted North American Car of the Year and Canadian Car of the Year respectively.
Equus is Hyundai's first serious foray into the large size luxury sedan segment crowded with such industry stalwarts as Mercedes Benz S class, Lexus LS sedans and BMW 7 series. To prove how serious it is in gaining a foothold in the upscale market, Hyundai allowed automobile writers in the preview event to test-drive Equus and compare it side-by-side with Mercedes Benz S350L and Lexus LS460L.
Equus comes in 3.8 liter V-6 or 4.6 liter V-8 engine and is paired up with 6-speeds automatic transmission. V-8 version maxes out at 366 horsepower according to the Hyundai's internal test data, which is on a par with LS460L or slightly lesser than Mercedes S500L.
Size wise, Equus is 5,160mm long, about 60mm shorter than S500L but a tad longer than LS460L.
Hyundai promises top-notch amenities and safety features commensurate with its lofty ambition to break into large luxury sedan segment -- a lane departure warning system, pre-crash seatbelt and VSM2, which oversees data communication between individual electronic components located at different parts of chassis.Prospect Equus buyers will be able to see the largest and most expensive Korean luxury sedan ever at Hyundai's Korean dealership beginning March 3.

Yeah, but they seemed to insinuate it was a Chinese-like copy. This is more random coincidence since both of these cars have had their designs finalized for a few years now. Anyways I am DIGGING the big hood ornament.

As was shown above that particular character line has been a Buick trademark for quite some time.

Thing is, their designs lack any shred of originality and at the very least borrow heavily from the competition.

I like it and have no problem with the Buick-inspired character line.

hmmmm..why this since they just introduced the Genesis?Am i missing something?

This is way bigger than the Genesis. Supposedly in line with the LWB 7er, S-Class, LS, etc.

The word "equus" entered the popular vernacular when Radcliffe decided to show his twig and berries on stage.
"Mustang" has been in popular usage for a hundred years.
I googled "equus". First, result is http://www.equusonbroadway.com/

Beautiful, really. Since the Buick comparison has been made, this is the sort of product that Buick should be making, instead of smallish FWD mid-sized sedans. GM can site increasing CAFE standards, as the reason why they can't do (reasonably affordable) RWD and V8 power, but here comes Hyundai with two big RWD V8 powered sedans!

If they wanted to be correct, you have to list out the full binomial. This doesn't look like an Equus asinus though, more like Herodatus' river horse, a.k.a. Hippopotamus amphibius. Still, I like the Equus name over Prestige, it made me smile
