Can't wait to see the full pictures. The TT-RS should be one hell of a car. The question is whether or not that will matter (Last I heard, North American sales were still not a sure thing.)

So more manly equals less sporty?

The TT weighs much less than a comparable A3.

So far, I like what I see. I hope the manual rumors are true --- S-Tronic only in the U.S. like the TTS, TT 2.0T, and TT 2.0TQ would be a let down.

Audi may even surprise with its new 3.0-litre supercharged engine.

Someone at WCF ought to do their drivetrain research before writing silly things like that!

    Engine and Transmission
At the heart of the new “B8” S4 is a new 3.0-liter V6 fitted with all of Audi’s latest hardware like direct-injection FSI, and then stacked with an Eaton 4-vane roots-style supercharger on top. The setup is good for 333-hp and 324 lb-ft from a wide 2900-5300 rpm. That’s 11-hp down from the outgoing B7, though we all know horsepower doesn’t tell the whole story. Torque goes up 12 lb-ft – increased over a broad range, and that helps explain why the projected 0-62 mph figure for the car 5.1 seconds, which beats the B7’s 5.6 by a half second.

Yes, we know this engine is referred to as the “3.0T”, and there are those “V6T” badges adorning the car’s quarter panels where a chrome V8 was perched last time around. We’re told the letter T now stands for anything forced induction at Audi. We also overheard a snarky explanation suggesting T stands for “thoopercharged” – a goof on letter choice that raises a good question. Why would Audi choose a supercharger after so many years of turbo experience?

Yes, the 3.0T engine exists. No, it won't fit in the nose of a TT. It's a longitudinal engine; the TT uses transverse setups.

i dont know why they cant come up with new sheetmetal sooner than every 15 years. I like the idea of the TT, just not the styling,,,like the new beetle,,too rounded. But obviously people like it and hopefully they send it along w/ the rs3

Nice to see the Euro sites are abiding by the embargo.

BTW World Car Fans is pretty out there in their info. The 3.0T doesn't fit transversely (East-West) and has not been developed for any transverse applications like the TT. The engine is a 2.5-liter FSI 5-cylinder Turbo and we were told (and reported) 350hp shortly after the Geneva Auto Show two years ago.

About the only questions left are basic equipment details. One we've been wondering about is if the car will get a rear right-to-left Sport Differential as seen in the S4. Though Audi has yet to pair such a setup with a transverse/Haldex AWD car, Haldex is touting a similar setup known as XWD.

We asked Audi AG's head of development Michael Dick about this at Detroit and he wasn't prepared to confirm anything at that time. He did however say they'd tested such a setup. It will be interesting to see if they've changed the Haldex configuration at all for the RS car.

Where do you get 15. The TT hit the market in current aluminum body style like two years ago.

I think this version of the TT is far less girly than the last model. It actually looks quite mean. Besides why give the car to the hairdressers? Thats where the mitsubishi eclipse belongs.

George, it's a trivial question, but can you offer insight as to why Audi puts the spec designation after the model name, i.e. TT-RS vs. RS-TT?

You know, I'm now on my second car with the LEDs (first an S6 and now an S5) and I get comments all the time. They get the car noticed and make it immediately identifiable and that's entirely a good thing for Audi.

Def a manual, and def a FSI as you can hear the injectors ticking away like a diesel. As for turbo, that you can also hear when the dv opens. Now, as for a five... I think you guys a dead on, sounds eerily similar to a well exhausted 2.5 here but quieted down due to the turbo.

You've a well-trained ear. I don't question the 5cyl thing. I have too many Audi contacts to count telling me that's definitely what it is.

As for manual tranny, the US TTS is a good thing to watch. It has no manual and that totally doesn't make sense, unless of course TT RS comes with manual.... then it's redundant in an environment where they're trying to simplify model/drivetrain proliferation.

I have a feeling this car will be EXACTLY what VW/Audi needed here in us about.....ummm 10 years ago.

Assuming they get into 300s (HP range) it will NOT be impressive (especially considering the price tag and other vehicles currently out there).

Not even getting into reliability etc.....

    What are you talking about?

The engine will be a 350HP 5 cylinder turbo.

The CURRENT TT, with the 200HP 2.0t engine can hang with a Boxster on track, which is pretty goddamn impressive in my book. This thing should be well ahead of that.

Somewhat of an odd statement coming from a 9-3 owner.

That's a very good point. It will be interesting to see what the aftermarket does with this engine. Stage 3 setups for 2.0T are like 380-hp. With 350-hp, this car is under the 5 second mark by a margin according to the press release. With 400+, well, could it break 4 seconds?

TT-RS that's faster than an R8? That would be sweet.

Any word on price? Considering the current price/performance the TT has, I'm guessing it'll be upwards of $80k for one.
