Quote, originally posted by WCF » Kia isn't being shy about its upcoming next-generation Sorento, releasing two teaser photos here in the midst of Geneva show coverage even when the Sorento won't be making its debut until the Seoul Motor Show in April. The new Sorento crossover will come with a 2.2 liter R-diesel with 200 hp that boasts a fuel economy rating of 33 mpg or 7 liters/100 km. A 2.4 liter Theta II gasoline engine with about 175 hp is also available but at the top of the range will be 3.8 liter straight 6-cylinder with more than 270 hp. There is also a new 6-speed automatic transmission.
This is another Kia model designed under the auspices of Peter Schreyer, who heads the Korean brand's European design studio and used to work for Audi. Having conquered the realm of quality build, Kia is clearly trying to push their designs forward and make their models competitive with their European counterparts on that front too.
The new Kia Sorento goes on sale in South Korea in April. In Europe and North America, the model will be launched late in 2009.

I like it. KIA!
My legend dates back to the 12th Century you see. My legend is quite old. The 12th Century was a long time ago. It was summer and so cold from the snow because it was actually winter or maybe it was Monday. It could have been a Thursday or possibly a Saturday or was it Tuesday though it could have been Wednesday or a Monday.

IIRC, Kia's current head of design came from Saab.

For an SUV, that looks fantastic! I hope the production model actually looks like this.

The rendering of the upcoming "VG" looks promising as well (about 104070817x better than the Amanti which it's replacing, but that's not hard)

Hyundai and Kia are really progressing in every function of their vehicles. And still with the 100,000 mile warranty!

Wouldn't it just have the Genesis/Borrego 3.8-liter V6?

Definitely a typo, but it won't get the same 3.8l V6 as the Borrego, Genesis & Equus.
The 3.8l in the Genesis is quite a bit different from the one in the Veracruz/Azera due to it's longitudinal placement (RWD). The 2010 Sorento will share a platform and many parts under the surface w/ the current Santa Fe so I would expect a 3.3l Lambda V6 with maybe a 3.8l as an option. It's also supposed to receive Hyundai's new in-house developed 6-speed automatic FWIW.

Gotcha, I was assuming it'd be RWD like the current Sorento.

Actually, Kia's design chief, Peter Schreyer, came from Audi.
Not surprisingly, Kia's new designs have the same basic clean form/lines, but w. the addition of more hard edged, aggressive character lines.

Doesn't Suzuki take care of that?

Why you wouldn’t (buy an Optima SX):
Because you have your eyes on the Frigidaire Limited Edition Camry that you saw last weekend at the neighborhood Autoplex.
