ok so here's the deal, I'm completely at a loss as to what could be causing my horn to not be working I've tried changing the relay cleaning the contacts in the steering wheel but nothing has worked. the horn started acting up about 2 weeks ago it would work intermittently, meaning I had to force the plate down to make it work, then it just stopped working all together. any help/suggestions would be helpful.

I've already searched here and tried most every thing ive found.

    Thanks!

No sh**. Why does everyone with a warranty feel like they need to troubleshoot the car themselves? That's why I bought a new car...so I wouldn't have to deal with stuff like this. Take 'er in, get 'er fixed, call it day. Done and done.

So, you just drop the car off and don't provide the Service Dept any list of symptoms, and reasonable things you have already checked? You dealer must loveto see you show up....

Actually I bet most dealerships would rather people DO NOT monkey around with things that they don't really know anything about. They could potentially be spending time fixing mistakes that customers made in attempt to figure out what the real issue is... and when they find that real issue, they are most likely going to take it to the dealer to get it fixed. So why not skip a step.

And what kind of symptoms do you need to give other then... "horn doesn't work."

GTINC... I bet your doctor loves that you come in after searching WebMD to diagnose your symptoms. Let them do their job. It's why they are in business..

if i did take it to the dealer i would b paying out of pocket for any necessary repairs i no longer have a warranty almost 60K on the car now. im also aware that the car has to have the key in the "on" position for the horn to work.

I'm as lost as you are. My 2006 Jetta is past 65k and a few weeks ago the horn completely died on me. The thing is, it didn't do so intermittenly as in your case, but just stopped functioning.
The fuse is good, even replaced it but to no effect. The alarm sounds as does the horn each time I lock the doors using the key-remote, but the horn itself is dead.
I took the assembly apart, being cautious of course as the entire thing fits right into the steering wheel. It doesn't help that all of the wires are black, I located the ones running to the horn and they seem fine but still I don't want to go any further. I'm sure it isn't a coincidence that the wires are all black either, time to visit the dealership

I had the same EXACT problem on my car and it was at the dealership for a week and they couldnt figure it out. A VW "engineer" happened to be at the dealership one of the days the car was there and the dealership along with the help of the "engineer" concluded it was a realy issue and changed the relay. Works fine now, except the alarm horn sounds like a dying duck. I guess thats better than it was so I am no longer waking up my neighborhhod when I lock my car. Im just glad mine broke at 45k.

Clockspring? Mine pooped out at about 62,000 miles. Interestingly, the steering wheel controls and horn stopped working a week or two before the airbag light came on. But the fix was relatively simple, I just used the directions in the "Multi-Function Steering Wheel Retrofit" DIY.
