Is that something moderately hidden behind the Chevy truck?

Yeah I was going to mention the Grand Cherokee as well!

Who knows the condition of said GC. It may need stuff.... and/or have very high miles. Heck- a coworker mother has a very high mileage front drive 01 Rav4 and was hoping it fell under the CARS voucher program since it is not worth $4500 wholesale.
Retail asking price =/ wholesale trade price.

A lot of great vehicles will get crushed under the program. Unfortunate side effect I guess.I just took in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport, well maintained with 80K. It's going to the crusher now. I feel horrible, the 4.0L would have lasted forever

Was it a 5-speed?
If so, I'm going to recommend fraud. And I'm not a guy who recommends fraud lightly. The 4.0 will keep you protected.

It seems like without very close oversight, a dealership could take in any car it wanted that qualified for the program, and essentially "buy it out" and not use the program for it.For example, let's say the wholesale trade on the Cherokee is $5000. The dealership takes it in under the guise of C4C, but doesn't take the government money for it, instead just putting their own $4500 towards the customer's purchase. Then they wholesale the trade vehicle.
What would stop them from doing that, other than the potentially too-low wholesale value of a C4C trade-in?
#15
Whatever. Everything in that pictures is a gas guzzler, probably driven 99% of the time with one person in the vehicle. There are a bazillion of them out there, so I'm not sad to see a single one go to the crusher.Oh and the whole 4.0 love thing needs to stop. OK, so they'll go 700,000 miserable, grinding, gas guzzling miles. Like this somehow helps the world.

The dealership that occupies the other three corners of the intersection where my office is just put out a dumpster this week with a newish Grand Am hanging out of it. The funny thing about this? It's ineligible! The Grand Am (like an awful lot of passenger cars) is rated at 21 combined, even with a V6. (I didn't check all years, but the '05 I looked up was 21).I wonder how many rebates will actually be issued...I don't personally know anyone who is going to take advantage of this, either because they're not buying or (more often) their car doesn't qualify.

The main point for fraud is at the crushers. Most crushers are also salvage yards. The 80k mile 4.0 may fall out of the engine bay between points a and b. At worst be kept as someones off road toy.

6 domestics traded in for VWs.Good thing for the marginal environmental benefit because it sure isn't doing anything to help the US economy.

You're acting as if that represents the entire market. The program doesn't even officially start until tomorrow. So chill....

It kills me, but I am getting ready to drop my 97 GC Orvis this weekend. It's actually in really good shape, but I paid $2k for it last year, drove it for 30k and can get $4500 out of it.... so I have to do it. I just have to use my financial brain and not my heart, because it is killing me to let her go.

under the cfc program the motors must be disabled by the dealer. the vehicles are then sold as scrap to a participating scrap yard. its loads of extra work and paperwork for the dealer. act now it wont last forever.![]()

I actually did the cash for clunkers...
I had a 97 limited edition sahara wrangler.... straight 6, oversized everything. I got around 10 miles to the gallon. It had been totaled 3 times.... everything was about to go (or was already going), from the u joints, ball joints, sway bar links, stabilizer bar, rear dif... the gear box is out, and just about everything was seriously leaking. It was used and abused, but i loved every inch, every dent, scratch, rust spot etc.I got 5500 towards my new jetta...
I hand it over to a junk yard guy, he gives me a check for salvage of 1000, then he hands the 'crushed' slip to the dealer. All the paperwork goes in and done.
He will be parting it out, no doubt making quite a few bucks... the dealer is just
'hear no evil, see no evil' otherwise you bring the clunker to the dealer, and they leave from there... but people cant stay away from parting out jeep wranglers.
