So, I was sitting around last night thinking about my first car and how silly some of the mods were that I did. Regardless of how much style you have now, I know everyone has done at least one or two mods that make you think "what was I thinking"! So lets hear them.

    I'll start -

I was 16 and just spent all my savings on my first car, a 91 civic hatch. For some strange reason I had decided that the tail lights just didn't look cool enough. So I found some awesome plastic mesh and spray adhesive them onto the tail lights. It looked cool in my head back then, not so much now. I also stripped the rear interior, weight reduction yo, making that 70 hp motor work alittle easier!

Sorry in advance if this has been done before.

Jetta grille/lights on my Mk3 GTI - it looked cool for about five minutes, then it got dark. @#$%ing 9004 headlights.

Shortly after this photo was taken, I put a giant NEUSPEED decal across the top of my windshield. Not sure why, it just seemed like a good idea at the time. Besides, what teenager says "no" to a free 4' decal?

**edit** found a picture taken by a crappy digital camera from 1998- you can barely make out the yellow writing at the top of the windshield. I *may* have added some sweet seatbelt pads as well.

I also rattlecanned the rear spoiler black. In my defense, the paint was prone to chipping on those as they're a soft vinyl material.

Eish I had pictures but my first car was a black 83 Rabbit GTI and I used electrical tape to stripe the tail lights and added Blue Dots to the brake lights. I also had black plastic covers I made to cover the headlights during the day. attached with Velcro and I took them off at night! What can I say, I was 16 and they seemed like the cool things at the time.

I installed some of those yellow useless pimp-style fog lights under the bumper of my awesome 1994 Lumina. Yeah, it looked retarded. Also, the switch hacked into a hole in the underside of the dash was quite classy.

I also killed the battery with them three times since the light output was low and the switch was hidden, it was easy to forget.

I made my own vinyl stripes on my 99 Camaro in high school. The 35th anniversary had just come out and I wanted to look like it. It was straight vinyl, 7" from eBay.

    Mk3 2.0 with all of a P-Flo strapped to it....decided that required a NEUSPEED banner...in red...on a white car.

Tried the clip on lamp covers to make them "dual rounds" but the light bled through the white paint creating white glowing lights w/crap output. Then I put in some very first-generation HID wannabe bulbs. Rainbows scattered everywhere. Luckily I got this late one Fall evening, fitted them, when out for dinner, saw the mess, & promptly removed them.

On my '86 Trans Am (no thunder chicken on the hood BTW) one of the muffler hangers broke, so I just cut pipe going into it and removed the whole thing.

I later found out that the previous owner had gutted the converter, so the car was loud as hell and wouldn't pass inspection, which kept me in constant trouble with the VA State police.

    Youth and stupidity....

First mod to my 1997 Jetta 2.0L, 17x7 Konig Monsoons on stock suspension with the typical mk3 Jetta rear end sag. I still thought it was an improvement, and a 60x40 Weitec Cup Kit followed not TOO long thereafter.

During the winter months I would put these dual round look headlight covers on my Golf to protect the glass smoked ecode lights I had because I had a previous one get cracked by whatever.....please keep in mind that this was around 1996-97....but still, kinda lame. I mean, I didn't think it looked that bad then...but now....whoa, I would be tarred and feathered here in the CL.

Drop Zone "coil overs" from Ebay.

Wow was that dumb. Replaced them with real coils and have not looked back.

    Air Shocks.

x2 Needed new shocks on the Mustang and let my buddy talk me into springing for the air shocks. Drilled a hole in the bumper cover right in front of the license plate and ran the air lines there for easy inflation.

    What a horrible idea.

That was like 2005, though. It was gone by '06ish.

Wood grain '70s house speakers under the hatch of my '83 Z28. Wired straight into the head unit, no amplifier. It was great for hanging out in parking lots, just pop the hatch and stand the speakers up. Looking back I hang my head in shame....
