who is paying for this one?
#1
So my girlfriends car got repoed in the middle of the night last night because as it turns out her father hasn't been making the payments..thats a whole different story. Fortunately the car was under his name and not hers so she wont be taking the credit hit. Instead of buying back the car (a 2005 Tc) she wants to get a new car because she was upside down on her loan anyway. Can anyone help me think of a good car for her? We've been shopping all day and haven't quite figured anything out yet.
Requirements are
-No more than $20,000
-Must be stick shift
-Preferably new
-No more than 30,000 miles
-Must be 2 door and somewhat sporty
Any help is greatly appreciated

She is. She was paying for the last one too. She would write him a check and he would make the payments but hes been using the money for other bills apparently. He lost his job a few months back and things have been hard for them lately

Forte Koup? There's not many sporty 2 doors left in the <$20k economy segment, but I find it the best looking.Does a MINI count? A base MINI is still a blast to drive.

Keep the rest of the money you saved.I would totally buy that if it was closer - that would be an excellent commuter car.
I've got a bunch of high end vintage audio gear I'm clearing out, restored Marantz 4270 - better than new condition; Pioneer SX-5590, 8/10; Concept 16.5, 8/10 cosmetically - 10/10 function. Various high end vintage speakers: Rectilinear Research, AR, Kenwood, Infinity, McIntosh, Leslie 251. PM me for details, clearing out to finance home theater upgrade.

Yeah its really tough to find one. I was checking out the Forte Koupe but I'm just still wary about the whole it being a Kia thing. Right now we're in between a new Tc, a MK6 golf, and a used RSX type S

I'd be more wary of the it being a VW thing than the it being a Kia thing.

Was she paying for insurance, or dad?Anyway- on the lower end of the price spectrum- a Civic or Focus coupe might be a good buy. Insurance is a question though.
Midsizers tend to have better insurance rates for younger drivers.
What about an Accord coupe?

On the- keep it cheap side (for a low payment), you can probably get a low mileage loaded up used Tiburon fairly cheap.

And note you get $6500 off a new 09 Pontiac G5 GT. I'd say off invoice.
That puts a new G5 GT at $13.5k ($15k with sunroof and heated leather seats).
If there are any left on dealer lots in your area- with a manual.
Carsdirect doesn't have Pontiac or Saturn in their price list anymore. That was quick.

Why doesn't she grow up, get a job, and make her own car payments?
I don't have one once of sympathy or empathy for her car. She wasn't upside down, daddy was.I say if she can't make a car payment, she doesn't need a car. Your girlfriend is spoiled.

Aren't Saturn Astra's dirt-cheap with them killing off the brand? And available in a 5-speed?Definitely worth considering if you MUST have a new car.
Mini's are a dime a dozen - ought to be easy to find a ton of those laying around, even S models will fit your price with fairly low mileage.
Too bad 2-doors are a must - Mazda 3's fit your description well otherwise.
Past: Ford LTD II, Chevette Diesel, Mazda RX-7, VW Beetle, Honda Accord, Jeep Wrangler (YJ), VW Passat, Mazda Miata, Ford Focus ZX-3, Honda CR-V & Current: Audi S4, Ford Taurus X

Ooh- good call on the Astra. Granted- you are buying a brand new 2008 model car. But you can get one for like $13k, and they should be any GM dealer backed, and it's very unique in a sea of affordable coupes.

If I make good money I don't see why I wouldn't buy my kid a car (provided they behave well), but judging by your reading comprehension you won't even get that far anyway. And please tell me wtf a "leadership consultant" is.

get the echo and help her dad out... seems like the thing to do in light of him losing job and trying to help her previously.seems like there is more to this story than is being admitted... he takes the credit hit because she was upside down on the loan... dad co-signed it sounds at the very least on her poor bargaining skills and now has more problems than he needed because he tried to help.
buying a 20k car in light of dad going down the financial toilet seems, you decide.
correct/clarify if wrong of course.

Keep the rest of the money you saved.Well, you picked the coupe that's the least sporty. Heck- a base Cav coupe probably seems more sporty.....
Here is a well equipped (chicks like a sunroof for some reason) 52k mile Focus ZX3 two door hatchback for under $5k. I'd offer $4k.

Save money and still have a fun sporty reliable car.
