According to Adam Corolla's podcast "Carcast", a new American Top Gear is in the works. May still be with Ace, it's going to air on the History Channel in collaboration with BBC America. All sounds very preliminary though.![]()

Even if an American Top Gear sees the light of day, it will suck, and eventually die.
#4
It will never be the same!!You can't have Top Gear without Jeremy Clarkson or James May.
#5
I think we've went over this before. It won't work, not just because you won't get the same personalities as the 3 in England, because there actually IS a possibility to get 3 as wacked out as them. The reason it won't work is due to ADVERTISING. England has a great Public Television, which means they don't need to rely on commercial advertising and sponsors to keep their show alive, hence the reason they can say the things they do. If they try that same crap in the US, bashing on any single car or carmaker, or have anything remotely opinionated, sponsors go right out the window, and death follows soon after.
#6
if it's halfway decent i'll watch it! looking forward to another car show actually.
#7
Won't work, Americans can't ripoff the Brits.
#8
You cannot have top gear with out Jeremy Clarkson.... Adam Corolla's humor is too dry. I think he is funny, but wtf?!?!??! A-TG might end up sucking huge..... I hope not though.![]()

I understand what you're saying, but I'm going to hold all expectations and reservations until I see the show.
And even if it doesn't live up to the original, I'm thinking it will still be leagues better than most of the garbage car shows we have now.

Didn't the people who went to the taping for the stillborn pilot say it actually was pretty good?

I'll believe it when I see it. And it should be on HD Theater, not History Channel

Here's the deal ya dummies, nobody knows how American top fear will be presented etc as a show. I agree that if they try to make it a rip off of thr UK version it'd be way harder to have a good show, but I don't think that'd be the intent of thr producers. This show could very well have a life of it's own and do moderately well! You guys know that the office was originally a UK show right?? The American version is based odd of it but with lots of key differences. I'm pretty sure it's done and is doing very very well.

NYC is a bit of a copy of Amsterdam, Eisenhower interstate system a copy of the autobahn system, Acela train a pathetic attempt to copy European/Asian bullet trains, modern day GM cars copying European makes like VW (Chevy Traverse looks like a mkv VW Golf on steroids).

If you don't see the similarities between the exterior design of the Traverse compared to the MKV Golf then you're not trying hard enough.
#23
instant FAIL...i love BBC's Top Gear mainly for the personalities...they also have an excellent camera and production crew...and the most appealing factor is being able to watch cars that we don't have here in the U.S.........the citroens, skodas, fiats and scenery around europe.
if anything i would rather watch a south american top gear...
trying to re-do top gear is equivalent to trying to re-do SportsCenter..it wont worklike the person above said..they wont be able to get away with have the stuff clarkson says..advertisers will pull out and i could care less about a chevy malibu

Both are 2 box cars. Both have 4 wheels. Both have windows and an exhaust. Both have head and tail lights. Definitely a match!

Look at the rear of the Traverse and tell me it doesn't look like a Golf, also the front similarly looks like a Golf.

I know I'm going to get owned for saying this, but between Speed and Spike TV, Americas has some pretty excellent automotive program. I personally find the hosts on top gear to annoying to watch. Horse Power TV is a great program that explain the ins and outs of auto mechanics. Gears on Speed is another great show that talks abouts all kinds of cool car stuff. Also, Spped always has some sort of special, like the Shelby special, and the Ferarri special.I guess the point I am trying to make is why have the need for an American Top Gear, if you can just watch the British version? From what I have seen, they review cars from all countries (although the seem the have something against the US market with the exception of the ZR1).
I would certainly give it a shot if they did make an American version, but if it is just a clone of the original, whats the point?

You are so right. 2 weeks ago at our car show, I sat in a Traverse and instantly thought, "Wow, I"m in a Golf!" They look so much alike!

The problem with spikes power block shows is that while they aren't horrible shows there is hardly any varity and is mostly only american muscle cars and trucks. While top gear does seem to favor cars from their side of the pond they do discuss american and japanese cars. I see this american knock off being very cheesy, top gear is for entertainment and to have a good enteraining show you have to be a good actor..which these american car show host are not, especially the power block host with their cheesy attempts at jokes.
