(Mazda may be feeling a wee bit ripped off, howevah.)
Why would they? This car takes a lot of cues from current Acuras (it will be the next TSX, minus the rear) and it takes a lot of cues from the Sports Concept. It even carries some cues from the ASC that was hideous (like the center break carried from front to rear).
On the car, I like it...but I think it could have been done a little more aggressively up front (more in line with the Sports Concept).

I meant more that it looks a lot like the new Mazda6 wagon in the shape of the greenhouse, how the wagonback is integrated into the body, and the sharp shoulder crease angling down into the big rounded front fender flare. It's not a rip-off, mind you, but it's just similar enough.

Eh, I don't know...the greenhouse reminds me of the current Accord Tourer and the fender flare is almost lifted from the MDX.

It's understandable if the Honda Accord Tourer concept looks more Acura than Honda to you. Like the last generation European Accord, the next generation car will make it to America as the Acura TSX, albeit only in sedan form. Our own Accord was, of course, already revealed earlier this summer.
When this car comes here as the TSX late next year, expect power to come from an updated iVTEC four-cylinder gas engine, not the new iDTEC diesel debuting at Frankfurt (although we should get the new 2.2-liter diesel soon, as Honda is quick to mention that it passes US EPA Tier II/Bin 5 emissions requirements). Production versions of the Euro Accord sedan and wagon will be shown at the 2008 Geneva Show, which means we expect to see a new TSX to be shown at an American show sometime this winter.
After my constant harping on the "It looks like a..." circle-jerks that popup in the Lounge constantly, I'm going to finally join the jerk. If that doesn't have the hallmarks of a Mazda, then I'll eat my hat (my hat is made of cookie dough, just in case).

Look at the history of the automobile... every decade had cars that looked alike. Each car has distinguishing features, but overall, cars just all look the same. It's always been that way. There just happen to be a few distinct standouts every few years- just enough to keep it interesting.
How many times can you rebuild a complex automotive component before you have two of them?
This is Acura's new corporate face (cf. new MDX). It's toned down a bit for this model since it has to be a mass-market Honda outside the US, but the shape of the headlight and the five-point grille with prominent perforated bars are very distinctive.
This is one step closer to the production design of the next Acura TSX sedan that we'll see soon, and the next non-US Accord sedan and wagon.

Depends who you believe introduced the "hallmarks" first...Acuras and Mazdas have always shared certain styling cues and ironically, they've always been released within months of each other.

I wasn't looking for a serious knockdown-dragout about this car. They can crib each other's notes forever for all I care. Like tii notes, cars have always borne resemblances to each other within their generational themes. But I do see quite a load of Mazda in this one, I can't help it.

I am absolutely smitten with the current one and would consider this one in any of the possible incarnations it may come in!

The advantage to buying a higher-mileage model is that you can buy the car in two payments -- the first is for the initial purchase and the second is for your mechanic's retirement fund. -PassSedanGLX
I don't see a production model, looking much different from this.
Hmmm the dark side is tempting... (looks at my own car)... wait.. I am already there!!!
All fellow members of the Roman senate hear me. Shall we continue to build palace after palace for the rich? Or shall we aspire to a more noble purpose and build decent housing for the poor? How does the senate vote?
For how long are we going to suffer with frumpy, awkward looking US-only sedan-only Accords? Why was this styling not used on the Accord (which looks even worse than the Camry)? Why must Honda excrete steaming piles of designer monkey poo onto us and then leave the handsomeness to their pricier Acuras? Why can we not be blessed with a wagon version of the Accord that looks like this? Honda *wants* me to hate them, I guess.

Better looking than the last edition but why does the rear bumper poke out like that?
I wonder if that is a design cue across the Honda/Acura board? We were behind a new MDX the other day and my sister-in-law pointed out that car looked cut in half (looked almost exactly like the bumper you pointed out).

its an Acura styling cue...the center break. Its been featured prominently on all their latest concepts (or on other company's cars, too...like the latest Lambo).
As for the rear bumper, you guys might be better off looking at a side shot and seeing if its just not the position that makes it "poke out like that"...cause I'm not sure the center break is really what you're talking about.
