In celebration of thirty-five years of fine watches--sorry, chronographs--Porsche's Design Studio has worked its magic on the Cayman S to make this special edition model, of which 777 will be built. The car uses black more liberally than a high school goth-rock band, with black chrono-inspired gauges, black alcantara on the steering wheel and headliner, black leather seats, and black paint with, you guessed it, matte black stripes.
In fact, the only metal not painted black is found on the 19-inch wheels sourced from the 911 Turbo. Non-aesthetic modifications are limited to the suspension, which gives this Cayman a ride height that's ten millimeters lower than stock. Each car also gets an individually-numbered plaque on the dashboard, and a briefcase full of Porsche Design goodies in the trunk. The Germans will get first dibs on the Edition 1 in November, with the U.S. cars arriving in January. Pricing doesn't matter--by the time you read this, they'll probably be sold out already.
I thought everyone in TCL was 6'1, 195lbs of adonis-like muscle with striking good looks, and made at least $136,000/annum? This is just shocking to me.
Don't mind the Porsche Design lettering down the side, but did they really have to write it along one of the hood stripes? Otherwise, it's awesome. I saw a 911 Turbo just the other day and thought, "wow, those wheels would look pretty sweet on a Cayman" and tada! Here they are, on a Cayman.

Gorgeous car...I can only imagine how much better it looks in person Mike
"Ferraris are serious cars for serious people who drive around wearing a serious expression. The Gallardo can do serious, too. It has Audi electrics and Audi engineering. But as you careen towards the next bend on a wave of extraordinary sound, half blinded by your own upholstery, you’ll be making the noise of a howler monkey and wishing you were naked" The one and only Jeremy Clarkson
stripes and black on black with a little parts bin raiding. I respect porsche design and even have a fuji camera I bought in part because it was porsche design. nice car but this is minimal effort from some truly capable designers...nothing more than a customer fleecing "special edition" package.
I used to like Club Sports, and X50 option turbos and that sort of stuff. Should I really care that Porsche just stole an idea (and not for the first time) from Pontiac/Volkswagen?

Alas, my next new (to me) car will be a Mustang, I think.
Really, which one?

Research the 1977 924 Championship Edition and the 1979 Sebring edition. I believe those would predate the various Wolfsburg Edition, 337, 20thAE, Fahrenheit, etc. cars you're referring to.

looks like you brought a troll to a beauty contest... lets get this steered away from a mustang conversation and more towards porsche.
Edited so as not to be an utter cone about it. There's room in this hobby of ours for Mustangs and Porsches. In fact, there's even room in my garage for Mustangs and Porsches.
Now for a Porsche "The More You Know": Which was the last Porsche to be designed by a man with the last name Porsche, and how does it relate to this car?
