New Porsche Cayenne GTS Debuts At The IAA In Frankfurt« »

Cayenne SUV Gets Sports Car Upgrades

ATLANTA, SEPTEMBER 7, 2007 - Porsche underlines the real sporty edge of its successful Cayenne series with the addition of a new model to be unveiled at the Frankfurt International Auto Show next week and going on sale in 2008: the Cayenne GTS boasts a specially developed chassis with permanent all-wheel drive, a V8 engine that offers a sizeable increase in horsepower and for the first time in North America will be available with a six-speed manual transmission.

With its lowered body, the new Cayenne GTS reveals a distinctive front and rear look combined with striking wheel-arch extensions that provide plenty of space for the standard 21-inch alloy rims with 295/35 R21 tires. Redesigned front and rear seats reflect the sportier personality of the new model. Two new paint finishes will be introduced with the Cayenne GTS: Nordic Gold Metallic and GTS Red.

In the United States and Canada the Cayenne GTS will come with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an electronically controlled damping system and complete with air suspension as standard.

The 2009 Cayenne GTS is scheduled to make its North American debut in March of 2008 at a U.S. price of $69,300.

Yeah, that's no good.

And it will be available in Nordic Gold Met?

That's like a $5k paint option on the 911....from what I remember.

The bodykit is questionable, but offering a six-speed manual in a V8 Cayenne is pretty cool.

to a manual, V8 Cayenne. The body kit isn't great, but I could live with it.

Nordic Gold is a paint to sample colour on the 911 for the low, low price of $4315.

It will likely be 7700 lbs, the same as all of the Cayennes.

Tire spoilers. My S2000 had them in front of the rear wheels too, but they were black so they didn't stand out as much.

Tire spoilers.

They're called splitters, not spoilers, they 'split' the front airflow around to the outside of the tires for improved aerodynamics.

Equip 'em about the same, and there's forty grand of difference between the two.

While the many zillionaires who frequent the Car Lounge will only be comparing the Cayenne GTS with a locomotive, which they could also afford, ol' Viergang's gotta think of the paymentz.

Nope, just the Cayenne V6 is available with a manual at the moment. I know you can check off Tiptronic S in the options list for a Cayenne S, but it's part of the standard features anyway.

There you have it folks: You can make a vehicle so ugly it would make the guys at Ssangyong giggle but all will be forgiven if it has three pedals.

You should try driving one. They suffer from the unpleasant sense of inertia found in pretty much every modern AWD vehicle, but they're very nice cars.

I drive a Cayenne S and Audi Q7 4.2 back-to-back every so often; I've also had plenty of loaner-car time in both V6 and V8s Toe-rags. The Cayenne is in a different dynamic league from its platform mates.

then don't buy one, the Cayenne has been credited by many, as the platform that saved Porsche. I'm sure they will do just fine without your purchase.
