If there was any question that the Eclipse lost its way and morphed into a hairdresser-secretary chariot this concept makes up for all that. Mitsubishi's Concept-RA shows what Mitsubishi is capable of when they set their mind to it. All of us have wondered aloud why Mitsu doesn't take the Evo mechanicals and mate them to a true sport coupe. The twist here is a 310 lb-ft. of torque 2.4l diesel powerplant with an Evo suspension and AWD components. Performance *and* economy - pretty cool in our book. The full press release follows...
I actually like the hood. The entire car is rather minimal in design, and without the unique hood would lose most of its impact. Clearly, the aluminum body, doors, and hood would never make production (same goes for the ubiquitous camera side mirros). But the car looks light-weight and has a striking stance.
Very compact, not fat and ungainly like the current Eclipse.
Shark nose, veddy noyce.
Abrupt tail cut-off, better than having an opposite, inverted slope like, say, the Si.
I'd even forgive the hood/engine cover thing . . sorta like a modern interpretation of the cliche musclecar hood buldge that seems to be on everything these days. Looks like the ZR-1 isn't the only car doing this.
It certainly looks distinctive! I wonder how much it will be watered-down for production, but I'd probably give it a test drive.
Well. I dont think those headlights will meet height regs, unless those are 23" wheels...
I would have liked the hood if it had a smoked polycarb cover OVER whats there... that would look neat... but it needs something... not just "open" like that.
"One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

Guess this vehicle also gets 40+MPG and meets tier 2 bin 5.
Seriously, this car has a lot going for it. 200hp/300lb-ft torque, AWD, dual-clutch transmission, and 40+mpg. Could be an affordable diesel sports car. Hope they can keep much of the concepts strengths intact for the next Eclipse.
Mitsubishi's designs are emulating Alphas quite a bit. Case in point:

Listen up, buddy, I've had both - I eat plain bagels with cream cheese all the time, and I know people who've brought me onion bagels to try. I've toasted them both. I've even had poppy seed bagels and bagels and lox with capers. I'll pit your onion bagel against my plain bagel with cream cheese any time anywhere, just meet me halfway.

I am I crazy or does it clearly say 2.2 on the hood?

The advantage to buying a higher-mileage model is that you can buy the car in two payments -- the first is for the initial purchase and the second is for your mechanic's retirement fund. -PassSedanGLX
I concur, I would take the Prodrive concept vehicle anyday. It's too bad Prodive won't actually make the thing for consumer purchase. Granted I suppose if you throw enough money at them they would
