Each year when Detroit rolls around, it is almost expected that Maserati will debut another version of the Quattroporte sedan, and with the 2008 show, Italy's lesser known exotic brand now rivals only the Ford Mustang for different, hardly discernable models. The latest is a limited run model called the "Collezione Cento," of which only 100 will be produced. It is meant to be the ultimate Quattroporte (at least until next year) with a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and technology that will appeal to the super rich of the world. It is these people--not just the merely wealthy--that Maserati says will purchase this car. These are people who "crave exclusivity above all else."
That appeal is visualized in a new ivory paint color, new 20-inch wheels, and a chromed grille. Inside, Poltrona Frau "Cuoio" leather in a diamond stitch pattern is truly elegant, while the rear seat is decked out with reliners, TV screens, and a full entertainment package. Each will have a numbered dash plate on the dash and a 400-hp V-8 under the hood.
Everything old is new again! Now if that powder-blue unstructured jacket and thin grey leather tie a la Miami Vice I have in the deepest netherregions of my closet would just come back into style...
I like it a lot more than when I had heard rumors about this car a while ago but it's also saddled with an MSRP north of $146k I would say it's a good thing Maerati will only produce 100.
I used to love the quattroporte with it's mafia-esque combination of big sedan and Ferrari V8 power. Now though, this car is aging....not so gracefully as I once thought it would.
The Fisker Karma blows the quattroporte out of the water. That is the kind of car I always thought Maserati should build. The Quattroporte and M5 used to be the closest things to a 4 door sportscar and its a shame to see that both cars are missing the trend.
Just imagine a 4 door Grandturismo coupe and it isn't far off from the Fisker Karma. With a Ferrari sourced V8 of course.
Hey, just cause your windows are gun slits, doesn't necessarily mean the Maserati's are huge...
In all honesty, I think its sorta refreshing to see a semi normal belt and roofline on a car. I am kinda tired of high beltlines and the poor visibility that goes with them.
