BMW has released an official set of photos and a mostly unreadable German press release for its new M3 Convertible. The extent of my German runs to knowledge of telling people to perform unnatural acts of self-love, a skill set acquired from my FOB grandparents, so a complete translation of the release just isn't possible, and we at Motive love our readers too much to subject them to Babelfish.
However, there isn't much new to say. The M3 Convertible is based on the 3-series 'vert and shares a structure, down to the retractable hardtop. It will be introduced at the Geneva Auto Salon in March. It's powered by the same four-liter, 414-horsepower V8 as the coupe and sedan, and changes such as the aluminum hood and M3-specific body parts are, of course, present and accounted for on the droptop M. A full gallery of pics is available HERE.
Probably not as noticeable in black, but this top design, as well as on the other 3-series verts, reminds me of those Egyptian 'aliens' in the Stargate movie.
I always liked the styling of BMW's, until Bangle and his 'flame' surfacing came along. I can't say I care for them much at all anymore, with the lone exception being the new 3 series coupe, which I like a lot (particularly in white).

Well that's an issue right there, German cars always look gr8 in white.
I agree, but being a complex hardtop vert.....its giving it more sheet metal gaps than you would see in another white german 4 seat vert for example like the CLK (which has a soft top as we all know).
So, while I don't hate it in white....wouldn't be my 1st choice for a 3 vert.
looks ok. Though I'm still not a fan of topless M-Cars.
Exactly - would someone please inform the rest of the world of the purpose behind an M3 cabriolet? The financial purpose makes sense - stuff the biggest power train into the most flamboyant chassis so all the fanbois will buy it. But that aside, why stuff the biggest power train into the flexible flyer chassis?
Gimme a hardtop (no roof holes please) and I'll make due...

Ferrari Spyder, Lambo Gallardo Spyder, SL/CLK AMG verts, Bentley GT vert, AM V8 vert, DB9 Vert, XKR Vert, etc.
News flash, some people want convertibles, luxury or sport oriented with power.
The new 3 vert, is a spanking new car...not some relic from the 90's. You don't think the body will be stiff?

Because open-air driving is an experience that can't be replicated.
Joe Rogan on Kellogg's dropping Michael Phelps:I mean, do you guys ever think about what you sell? Pop tarts? Are you kidding me? I would be willing to bet that 50% of the people buying pop tarts are stoned out of their ****ing minds ... There’s nothing quite like being stoned out of your mind at 2am watching a Chuck Norris movie and eating a bowl of fruit loops.
"No, honey, you don't look retarded at all! I'm soo happy you cut your hair like I told you to [the girls will love this one. For my next trick I'll have him jump off the Brooklyn Bridge]"

Stiff compared to another cabriolet perhaps. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike convertibles but rather I dislike unibody cars that have been "beheaded". Even the C5 Corvette, body-on-frame was still more flexible as a cabriolet or even as a hatchback than it was as a hardtop (both standard and Z06).
One of my favorite cars is a convertible - then again, they didn't make a hardtop version of the Cobra.
Thanks for the news flash - it's good to know that wealthy people enjoy wasting money on "the most expensive but not necessarily the best" of a vehicle model. Now I just have to figure out how to capitalize on that fact...

Yes, because mostly street driving has to be done in the "highest" of performance capability.
Cruising around in a powerful convertible is fun, at least imho.
Hey, for its worth...didn't Clarkson buy a Gallardo Spyder?
It's real easy, NO! Then again if this were the new face of a 2009 Pontiac Grand Am what would you say?

In white, those gaps are just unacceptable. On a black car they would be a lot less noticeable, I guess, but I'm just not feeling it at all.

Its okay, I don't why some people act like BMW will send people to their homes and threaten them if they say a BMW is not that attractive looking..
To me the E92 look is better on a Pontiac than a BMW
