 Geneva '08 Preview: Mazda2 3-door« »

Saying the full name out loud might sound like you're confused about how many doors this car actually has, but the car itself is pretty straightforward. The 3-door Mazda2 hatchback will make its first appearance in just over a month at the 2008 Geneva show, adding a second variant two Mazda's latest small car. While wearing two fewer doors than its brother, this car measures out to the same length, width, and wheelbase as the 5-door variant that debuted here last year and uses the same 1.3- and 1.5-liter gas engines, along with a 1.4-liter diesel. No decision has been made about the Mazda2's future in the US, but the platform will be used for a small Ford similar to the Verve concept shown earlier this month at the Detroit show.

I think the first question should be, will the 2.3 DISI fit?

Oh yeah, imagine it set up like this:

Please, please, Mazda, let me have a 2.

That would so rock with the new 2.5 liter I4 making around 190 HP (up from 170).

In a chassis that light, GTI what?

I'd rather have a Mazda3 2-door.

That with the 1.4 diesel would make a fantastic, cheap little run about car for the city.

Mazda would be downright STUPID not to sell this in Canada, especially Quebec.

Old Mazda 323s are everywhere here, and while the Mazda3 hatch is nice, it doesn't fill the same niche that low-budget Quebecers crave.

It would be perfect for me. Small, efficient diesel in a small efficient package. What sort of mileage do they get on the highway? 50?

So if driving a Miata makes someone "gay", does driving an Escalade make someone "black"? Think about it.

I would think it would be a big seller here too. I mean, if people snatch up Fits and Yaris', why not this?

Nicely done.

I love the 2, just from a design perspective. It's identical in proportions to the Yaris, but somehow it looks so much more dynamic and visually sleeker. It's 221 pounds lighter than the car it replaces, AND it's well-equipped. For those who are moaning about the top engine being a 103hp 1.5, it weighs 2112lb. That's two thousand one hundred and twelve.

That's right...that's around 1000lbs less than a GTI....i.e. the weight of carrying around six 160lbs adults.

holy ****. I hope that pics been digitally edited. If not- then we need to take up a collection to get that poor girl on the right some decent acne meds and dental work. (shivers over and over again)

Dayum. I never realized a small innocent picture with three chicks and one dude could be such a buzz kill.

Oh- and if this car comes to the NA market in any form (Mazda or Ford), I suspect it with have a version of the 2.0 from the Mazda3, which does make 170hp in MX-5 form. So it does have major potential..
