 Geneva '08 Preview: Ford Focus Coupé-Cabriolet« »

Yes, we know. We don't get the Eurofocus, thus calamity will ensue. A tornado will destroy some heartland homestead today, the temperature of the oceans will rise a few degrees, a kitten will stand in the street and mew over its mother that was just run over, and a heretofore unknown chunk of rock in space, feeling the slightest tug of gravity from some distant celestial object, will begin its journey towards Earth and a fulfillment of its destiny to ruin your sixty-fifth birthday party when it crushes you on impact. But at least your guests will have something to talk about.

Those in the Old Country, however, can enjoy a restyled version of their Focus Coupé-Cabriolet, that has been updated to reflect Ford's "kinetic" design language that's used on the Mondeo and the multiple Verve concepts. You can read more about the forbidden fruit for us Yankees by clicking here.

It's like Ford & Puegot are having a contest to see who can produce the car with the biggest mouth.

Exactly. Closely related to brahs (bros who consume a lot of pot, reggae, and longboards), brohams (surfer bros) and dudebros (fraternity bros).

This would crush each & every one of those cars. The Eos would be a good comparison, but VW doesn't have the dealer network nor the advertising to compete numbers wise with this Focus. The G6 is decent, has the V6, and is slightly larger but it lacks the "cuteness" found in the Ford. The Sebring just flat out blows DCX chunks .

I know it's been said time & time again but Ford really screwed the pooch with the new Focus . I really want Ford to succeed but they're making it hard for me to be a fan with their one step forward, two steps back mentality.

I was wondering why it was being called a coupé-cabriolet. Thinking the name was a bit redundant. Afterall, it didn't look like a sedan-cabriolet. But the above photo gives some clarification I guess.

This is the problem with most coupe/convertible hardtops. The profile is horrible, with the top up, and it becomes an orgy of panel gaps. Of the 4 seat hardtops, the Pontiac G6 is the most succesful in not looking like a pick-up truck, from profile view. The G6 convertible is probably the most true to it's coupe profile, as well. Overall, I prefer the contrast, in color and materials, of true "ragtops". I imagine that increasing fuel economy standards, and the desire to reduce vehicle weight, will doom the hardtop convertible, yet again.

Nope, very different cars. The C70 uses a more modern three-piece top, while the Ford still uses a two-piece. This is why the trunk is actually more extended than a C70 or an Eos.

Most European reviews are placing the Ford well below the Eos and C70 in quality, though Jeremy Clarkson likes the Ford best. The Ford is truer to the European Focus handling than the C70 even though both are based on the same platform.

I've heard that Ford stopped shipments of the Focus CC for several months because of very serious leaking problems, but that appears to be sorted out now.

Doubtful; they'll probably just put a diesel engine in it. I think the diesel is already the most popular drivetrain for the Eos in Europe.

According to Edmunds, Audi says sticking with a softtop saved them all of 88lbs on the new A3 convertible. There will definitely still be people willing to pay that relatively small penalty for a hard top.

Coupe-cabriolet, and the abbreviation CC, is pretty much universally used to denote a hardtop convertible in Europe. Which is why it's really dumb that VW is calling their new Passat "4-door coupe" the "Passat CC".
