Yay! More single-picture, single-paragraph Geneva "previews" from the manufacturers!
The Toyota Concept Car iQ, a three-passenger runabout that measured less than nine feet long, was shown at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show — but Toyota is already going to pull the wraps off its production version at this year's Geneva Motor Show. The production car is still a three-seater, with enough space for "luggage" or "a child" (in the same space!), and is "infused with Japanese design elements."
The Urban Cruiser, on the other hand, is "an environmentally responsible small SUV aimed at the urban all-roader market" that "provides an answer to consumer desires for SUVs but with low fuel consumption and low emissions."
I'm sorry--what's wrong with bringing a smart-like product (that probably, unlike the smart, won't suck) to market?
That's fine if it's Smart-like. This is Smart-knock off. If this thing has a Chinese badge on it, this thread will be full of pitchfolk mob trying to burn it down.
And the xD offroader is, how should I say it... super lame?
The iQ is less inspiring than its concept, but then, what production car isn't? The concept sticks out in my mind because Toyota was claiming it would be the shortest production car ever made, when it fact it was tied with the original Mazda Carol and other first-gen kei cars.
My feeble brain is still trying to understand how a vehicle with a raised suspension can be "urban." I've driven in the pothole hells of America's urban centers and, bad as the roads may be, standard-height passenger cars are still ideal for urban driving, and raised suspensions are best left for the kind of driving that city dwellers will never, ever do.
