Aston Martin's LM P1 prototype racer underwent its first round of testing last week at Prodrive's proving ground near Warwick in the UK, prepping for this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. Perhaps better known, the brand's DBR9 racers compete in the GT1 class in the French enduro and battle it out for a class win with the likes of the Chevy Corvette team. Not so for this Lola-chassis with Aston V12 power. The car you see here will go head-to-head with Audi's R10 TDI and Peugeot's 908 HDi V12, not to mention well-seasoned teams like France's Pescarolo squad.
Earlier this week, the ACO, sanctioning body for Le Mans, published a list of entrants for this year's event. Among them: Charouz Racing will campaign two Lola cars, one powered by Aston Martin and the other with a Judd engine. Unfortunately for those headed to Sebring next month, it is unlikely that the Aston Martin prototype will come over for a shakedown against its diesel competition from Audi and Peugeot.
For the most part. If memory serves, it's also the cucumber capital of Japan. Hence the home-market ads for the FT-86 featuring Takeichi-kun, the cartoon cucumber whose meteoric rise through the underground drift world has shamed him in the eyes of his school-master.
Hopefully Aston can beat those diesel douches, but I won't hold my breath.
Nice one. Why doesn't Aston step up and make a real race car engine and a chassis???

This place is is insane - the biggest complaint I hear in the Car Lounge is that VW's are too expensive when loaded up with options and yet when they want to decontent and lower the price, the complaints get even louder. You can't have it both ways.
Wow, this actually gave me chills (the last car to do that was the R8). But for two reasons: one, that I'm thrilled that prodrive backed aston is building such a sweet racecar, two, that it looks like AM has some glorious days ahead of it. I only hope the winner of Jaguar/Land Rover brings back some of the same passion and racing pedigree that once made these marques great.

Now now. What have diesels ever done to you?

The ACO offically hasn't said whether on not if their proposed closed cockpit LMP1 rules for after 2010 will happen. Also, the Lola and Peugeot closed cars don't seem to be what the ACO may be planning for. Only GM is pushing for the 2010 rules right now, as they want to build a Corvette C6R based GTP car, like what Rick Hendrick used to run in IMSA GTP in the mid-'80s.
