 Opel's Tigra TwinTop "Illusion": The identity-crisis convertible« »

Put a fuzzy roof on a Lincoln Town Car, and it's called pandering to those with a Caesar's Palace aesthetic. Do it on a baby European convertible, and it's instead "classic cabrio flair."

The new "Illusion" model is another iteration of the Opel Tigra TwinTop: its sole defining feature is that the two-seater’s electro-hydraulic retractable steel roof is covered in a Bordeaux red canvas, which gives the car, for better or worse, the soft-top look of a classic fabric-roofed cabrio.

Swell.

Huh? Making a hardtop convertible look like a softtop convertible...

Whatever floats yer boat....

That car is painfully cute. A Mini looks like Hoggle compared to this.

Why doesn't GM sell the Tigra in the USA? Especially the common rail diesel version.

Hmm, maybe because they'd have about 4.3 sales per year?

What's the point?

Well, at least the top actually retracts.

But unlike the Town Car, the roof does actually retract.

It could work but not with the red on blue colors here.

I believe we have a new candidate for the "doing it wrong" thread.

It is pretty humorous.

The Tigra with a hardtop is a crap car... The Tigra with a soft-hardtop is just stupid!

How about some facts to back up your assertion that US sales would be poor?

Aren't 'quality' small fuel efficient cars selling surprisingly well in the USA - such as the BMW Mini?

Interesting idea that could be taken one step more retarded with VW's Eos.

One'd have a real hardtop convertible that looks like a soft top with a moonroof that actually works...unlike the usual geezered-out Town Car or DTS.

Common problem with these tiny Euro coupe-convertibles. Check out the Nissan Micra.

Audi has said one of the reasons they're sticking with soft tops is that customers like the way they look. I guess Opel is trying a different way.

Yes Martha, you can get your new 2010 Toyota 4Runner with a 4-cylinder. As long as it's 2WD. And as long as it's with an old 4-speed automatic.
