The only major new attraction on Lotus stands at this year’s Geneva Motor Show will be an updated Europa lineup, which will go on sale across Europe starting from June. The range now includes a new entry-level model priced from €37,500 and tops out with the Europa SE flagship, which starts at €41,500.
The cars feature a new body-colored mesh grille, multispoke light alloy wheels, and blacked-out headlight surrounds. The 2008 models also get a slight revision to the double wishbone suspension set-up but keeps the Bilstein mono-tube dampers and coaxial Eibach springs at each corner.
The Europa still features a mid-mounted 2.0L turbocharged engine and in SE trim it churns out peak output of 225hp and 300Nm of torque. Even though the Europa is engineered with a more relaxed driving characteristic than its Elise and Exige siblings, the luxurious roadster still completes the 0-60mph sprint in a brief 5.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 143mph. I like it. I don't know what the market is for it, but I like it.
Seems to me that track nuts will choose the Exige (or a 211 if they don't care about street driving ever). Sunday drivers will choose the topless Elise. Big $$ Lotus fans with a penchant for horsepower will wait for the new Esprit.
I guess someone will buy one. It's not coming to the U.S., right?
"Your eDUCATIon is not complete without a DUCATI"
FORMER VEHICLES INCLUDE: Exige, Cooper S, S2000, E30 M3, E36 M3, B5 S4, Mk3 GTi VR6, 325iX, Porsche 914, 5.0 Mustang, Discovery II, Wrangler 4.0, CBR 900RR, CBR 600RR ...
I never liked this car... it always looked so hacked-together to me. It looks like a Elise knock-off kit car. The way the door sills just kinda... end. The way the roof flares out at a different radius than the side glass... a few other things pop into my mind too. Painting the black plastic facia bits hasnt helped it either...
"One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."
-Lounge's most timid driver: 2008-2009 I dont even drive anymore. I sneak around on my MTB.
I don't understand the body colored accent bits either. The mesh should stay black.
Lotus did the same sort of the thing with the Exige - making the splitter, wing, and sidepods body colored for the S. I don't think it made the car look better.

Agreed, although the color matching treatment doesn't look as bad on the Exige as it does on the Europa.
Another awful example of Lotus color matching is the Elise California limited edition. In person the Elise California looks terrible.

for some reason that design looks OLD to me. the styling doesn't really feel progressive, it almost feels like something designed in the early 2000s...the europa doesn't do it for me.
Good God No! This is beyond Fail, the updated Lotus Europa has reached Fail infinium status and that is very hard for a Lotus to achieve!

"No, honey, you don't look retarded at all! I'm soo happy you cut your hair like I told you to [the girls will love this one. For my next trick I'll have him jump off the Brooklyn Bridge]"
Man, that looks sooo much like the unlamented MR2.
ohh only $80k....$USD
I'd rather have a '72 S3 thanks!
The feeling of immortality extends right up to the moment of impact. Every 10% weight reduction equates to 7% fuel mileage gain. Priuses are ECONOMY cars for people who can't add.....
The Europa scares me. It's the hideous big sister compared to the lithe and purposeful Elise and Exige. It took the one thing the Elise/Exige was good at and dumbed it down and the tradeoff doesn't appear to be worth it. I'd rather have exposed aluminum in the cockpit than all that leather upholstery that's going to look like hell in 5 years. Is the ride comfort and interior appointments in the Europa really that much nicer than the Elise/Exige? The interior design is certainly no better. My biggest comfort issue in the Elise/Exige is the high side sill which makes ingress/egress a chore. The Europa doesn't look much better in this regard.
It seems there has been some confusion. The old Europa will still be sold as the 'Europa' and the new car with the awful accenting will be sold as the the 'Europa SE'.
i love the inside of it. the outside is kind of lackluster though. my best friends dad has an all original lotus europa just rotting away in a garage in oregon. are those worth anything substantial? should i try and get a hold of it?

No. Yes. A guy in my shop is restoring a Europa right now. All I see so far is a backbone frame and the pedal assembly. Just think, one day, after lots of blood, sweat, tears, time and money, you too can own one of the worlds ugliest cool cars ever invented.
