Looks like despite an embargo officially dropping sometime tonight or tomorrow on the 2009 Nissan Maxima, it looks like the covers have been lifted a bit early. And after the new Maxima teaser shots we showed yesterday that showed us absolutely nothing, we're glad to finally have the official pics thanks to the boys at the site all about Fans of Cars from around the World. They've managed to procure a few shots of the new Maxima and here they are. We'll have a full set of live photos tomorrow at the official New York Auto Show unveil.
Centre console looks very wide. I wonder if this car is moving up to Avalon territory. On the other hand, that wouldn't work too well with the 4DSC concept.
This is a car that'll look a lot better in the flesh. Even in this picture, though, I prefer it to the current car. Sadly, it looks like they're continuing the trend of taillights that don't meet the trunk lid cutline in a logical way.

Well at least it looks slimmed down. I thought the current generation looked bigger than it needed to be. But yea, I think the square front grill is too square for the rest of the car. But it makes it look more Infiniti-ish.
It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.

There is a lot of stuff going on with the exterior. Front end gives me Q45 vibes, rear end is like a Mercedes meets Grand Prix encounter. I've said it looks good and it looks bad about equally thus far. I'll have to wait and see it in person. I do like what seems to be the new Nissan interior though.
I like it, I don't love it, but it's better than the current generation. Especially the interior. This current generation is so vague in styling and fun.
Bring back the 4DSC, offer a manual transmission, and some aggressive styling.
from the rear it reminds me of the Camry. It has the same lines around the trunk area and the lights are very similar. Spare me the "it has 4 tires and doors, they must be the same comments"

Yes and no. The Maxima's rear end has a much sportier fender treatment and the taillights seem to integrate much better with the design.

More and more evidence is piling up that Europeans are nothing more than Americans with more colorful money and funny accents.

Can 1,000 monkeys chained to typewriters build a better Maxima? On second glance, the rear looks ok, but overall I'm still not liking it. And they're getting quite big.

I get the feeling this is one of those cars that looks like the dog's breakfast in pictures and the dog's bollocks in person. The pictures make it look like a combo of an S5 and a GT-R, but I bet it looks sharky in person.
It really had to grow into a full-size car, otherwise it'd just compete internally with the Altima.
Obviously. And it has to keep up with it's competition at Toyota and Honda. Just because I know why doesn't mean I have to like it. Everything just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

I have to say, I think it looks pretty darn good. I know the intarweb rule is to immediately call it a copy and point out individual styling elements that resemble other cars, but as a package I think it looks good and I think it would stand out from the crowd. The only element I am not liking is the weird protrusions on the headlights, but its not horrible.
The interior is definitely an improvement, but I have to say I've never been a fan of recessed LCD screens. I like the ones that sit flush with the dash (most VWs, Saab, etc...) or pop up (a la the C-Class and CTS).

My uncle bought an '08 Maxima last fall and I got a chance to check it out over X-mas.
From pics at least, the '09 looks to be a huge improvement. Especially the interior.
