porsche-golf? « » 11:40 AM 6-4-2008
As weird as this may sound, it seems Porsche is working on a Porsche badged Volkswagen Golf for 2012. Now, we know that the Volkswagen Golf is a huge success, but a Porsche version of the car seems like a totally absurd idea; unless of course Porsche is postioning itself to become more mainstream and compete with BMW.
The picture below is on the cover of the new AutoBild magazine. The caption next to it read (in German) ”kompakte geheim-projekte bis 2012. der porsche-golf.” That translates to “compact secret projects until 2012. the Porsche-Golf.”
Knowing him it's prolly some VWMS part that doesn't exsist any more. You can't get it. And just feel lucky you even saw it. -Cabe07Ah VTEC. All the lag, none of the turbo. I've heard that Porsche has wanted to do an 'entry level' B segment car for years. If they do mid 30's, it could work. Quote, originally posted by 2002_Turbo » Get out of here Eagle, we've already plucked you guys once; we're going to do it again in Philly

I can see this being an EPIC FAIL. However, if done right for ground to antenna, it could do some damage to the 1 series goat-mobile.Baaaaaaaad.....

i actually really like it! if it happens it would be interesting to see where they position it in terms of the the GTi/S3 at that point in time and what is happening with the 1 series.

As much as I lament the continuing saga of cheapening and mis-directing the Porsche brand, I think that is a REALLY NICE looking car!
Also as much as I hate the idea of a Porsche luxo-SUV, I recognize it is things like that that help keep Porsche in business so...

Porsche needs to concentrate on getting back their iconic image, not entry level sports cars for 20 somethings. They need a car to lust over. "The only resemblance boy is the number and the color," Sir Sterling Moss.

it was from May 2007, old news. wouldn't we have heard something more since then if it is to be released in a few years?

Der neu UGLY-ROCCO mit ein neu Porsche schnoz.Better than VW's abortionistic attempt at a Scirocco. I don't mind it because it's not got any 'Scirocco' DNA...(or lack of it.)
So, if published reports of the New VW XXXXXXXX at $40,000 USD are true....this may be the worlds most expensive hatchback.

5 series hatch makes it's debut in 2010, so it wouldn't be.

Might bring base Golfs/GTIs down to a more reasonable price. Didn't the original mkI GTI cost something like $15,000 new in the 1970's? Nowadays, your lucky to get a base model Golf for that price.

You can't be serious...remember the 914 won it's class at LeMans (beating the 911s I might add) and finished 6th overall (only behind 2 917s, a 908 and 2 Ferrari 512s).Unless you meant that they shouldn't go any lower than offering a 914-like car (aka Boxster).

The Cayman/Boxster are as cheap as Porsche's should evAr get. They need to keep the brand lust-worthy and not so easily attainable, it's what makes a Porsche a Porsche.
