I'm out on a Nissan Maxima first drive trip in California right out (look for it on Motive next week) and I ended up in an elevator with one of the Maxima's engineers. Apparently, the manual-only thing was a rumor that spread because of something someone in Japan said and through the game of telephone, it got all mixed up.
In reality, the Maxima diesel is, from what I was just told, automatic only right now, with manual being considered but not for sure. So there you go.
If I had a penny for every time this pic had been posted, I'd be able to buy a newspaper....

It's hard to imagine another car reaching a higher state of perfection than the F1. Others have come along, a few were even faster, but none have been so inherently RIGHT as this car.

I don't think it's ever been more appropriate. I've been practically skipping around town for the last 2 days since I heard that everything was right with the world. And now it was just a communications mixup?
Stop whining you crazy lot. You want diesel cars to sink in this country before they're even offered?
If this thing came with a manual transmission option only, it would be the sales flop of the century. This is a GOOD thing.
Having an available automatic would be a good thing for the adoption of diesels in this country. Making it mandatory sucks, at least for those who wanted a stickshift version.

Yea, but you wouldnt have bought it anyway. In the ~300k users that are on this forum, I bet less than 10 people would even consider it. Much less buy one, its not made by zee Germans.

Did I ever say I would have?
I'm not a fan of the new Maxima. I don't need a car that size. I wouldn't want a FWD car if I were to get a car that size. You know what? People can have opinions on a car without intending to buy one. The percentage of people actively in the market for a new car in that size on this forum is quite small, and there are certainly other valid choices in that segment. Why get pissy if everyone doesn't choose that one?
Oh yeah, and I'm a long way from being a German car fanboy. I'd have bought a Civic Si if the new ones didn't feel like crap compared to my '97 DX.

Ohh! Hit a nerve did I?
I don't recall ever feeling 'pissy' when I wrote that. It was merely a statement meant to illustrate that the opinions of people on this board are inconsiquential to automakers because rarely do we, as a collective TCL body, put our money where are mouth is.
And, it seems that was a right about you anyway. You have no plans to buy one, so whats the difference to you? I think Nissan is smart offering the auto. If there is only one trasmission to offer, the auto should always be the choice in 95% of cars. They sell more.
Little sensitive to the German car comment to, eh? You really can't argue with me there though, most people around here seem to worship that country when it comes to automotive design.
If my quantum physics are correct, this thread and the other thread, and the resulting brouhaha should just negate themselves like matter and anti-matter and disappear.
My Corolla hasn't broken down once since 2001, it's been paid off for most of that time, and it's about as satisfying as masturbating with a boxing glove.
No, I was in a rush because I left for work two minutes after posting that.

You came across that way, at least to me.

Actually, most of us do. I'd wager that the percentage of enthusiast-car-owners in this population is much, much higher than the average. I know it is for my office. However, we are an inconsequential number of people, in the big picture, and can't save a model ourselves. Further, most of us only purchase one car every few years, so it's entirely possible that a model that would be our top choice is bested two years later when we make a purchasing decision, or we wind up in a different market segment.

I like to have the choice left, because as more makers remove the choice there is a greater chance that a car I am interested in buying will have it removed.

I do believe I said I agreed that it made sense. I'd still prefer that both options be available. I'd probably be driving an IS250 now, by the way, if it came with a decent stick.

Forgive me for being insulted for being judged by my current choice in automobiles, especially since I said not one word about country of origin in this thread, nor any others that I can remember. Except Korea.

Oh, I can argue anything, ask anyone around here! Let's just say there are plenty of people who are die-hard Japanese and American car fans around here to go with the Europhiles. Me, I like what I like, and buy it. I'd be driving a G35 Coupe if the only dealer here weren't shadier than the rainforest.

Don't take things so personally.
Don't take huge liberties with my posts. I took nothing personally, except the German car thing, and this is all basically make-believe anyway!

It's not like anyone was actually going to buy this anyway. I don't care what the VW diesel nuts here proclaim--diesel is about as likely to take off here in the US as Britney Spears is likely to be first lady.
