Like high-performance SUVs that suffer from high curb weights and tall centers of gravity, front-drive sports cars are born under-equipped to navigate a cruel, unfair world. Asking the front tires to throw a wave of power to the ground and turn almost two tons of metal at the same time is expecting a lot. What are those back tires doing? Sitting on their steel-belted asses and enjoying the ride, that's what....
I have been unimpressed with Nissan and their products, this new Maxima is just another typical ho-hum release of a car. They need to get their R&D laid so they can churn out awesome products like the GT-R

A Mazda3 is frequented by females but the owners here have a bukake party every time someone here buys one.
Don't like the Styling...and I've yet to be sold on CVT's...I've really disliked every car I've driven with a CVT. I think I'd stick with a G35 if I was going Nissan/Infiniti at the moment.

Good thing you don't work at Nissan! How is the most horsepower (compared to other V6 vehicles in it's class), greatest feature content, and nicest interior of pretty much any non-luxury car on the market ho-hum? You want ho-hum, go look at a new VW.
I think the new Maxima looks great. It should do well for them, just like new Murano and Altima.
As a guy who felt compelled to start a thread about how ugly the current/outgoing Maxima is, I think this is better, not perfect by any means, but an improvement. Those headlights though

See, I can't stand the little chrome "accent strips" everyone wants to add these days. Being a small, thin, centered horizontal strip makes it look like a teen 'stache. "This makes me look sophisticated, right?"

I prefer the Accord headlight by FAR, sure it bulges like Marty Feldman but that's better then that ridiculous, fussy, deep concave curve in the Max IMO.
2008 Chevrolet Chevy C2 - 1.6 liters of pure fire breathing dyno-juice burning fury! 1998 Kawasaki ER-5 - Oldie but goodie! 2005 Yamaha XT660R - The beast, and Euro-3 at that!
Visually, it's hard to call Nissan's latest top-dog sedan forgettable.
Yeah...right. That's a real beauty right there. Up there with the Miura.
Someone needs to remind Mr. Fowle and the Motive staff that the Maxima, and quite a few of the other cars the magazine has tested (like the Astra XR), are not sporty vehicles. The CVT isn't meant to be treated like an edgy 6 spd. BMW gearbox.
am i the only one that likes these Accord headlights? I can't be the only one, Honda made them that way, they are selling. The maxima headlights are weird at first, but grow on you fast. I think the overall lines look boring, but for headlights, come on, if manufacturers keep with what they've had since the early nineties, i personally would loose my interest in a lot of cars. They're keeping it interesting and up to date. Like every other high tech or fashion product, in this case, cars are both. Stop complaining and embrace a view that accepts and strives for change. Every time a new model comes out, first complaint is the headlights. Let it go.

Well I guess someone also needs to tell that to Nissan, since they're the ones marketing it as the four-door sports car. And the one we drove even had a sport package. Not to mention the presentation I got about all that's been done to make the CVT more aggressive for the Maxima.
The Astra's plenty sporty, too. It's just slow. Just like the Maxima is plenty sporty, it just needs a different transmission.

Its a Honda, its an Accord, notice they continue to get bigger and uglier each generation and they sell more each time. This also can be said for the Camry which also gets public ugly immunity.
Nah, VW shows have a lot of mean-muggery and douchiness. Everyone is so much cooler than everyone else because they have the OEM Euro Douchenapkin that only comes in the Turkish Golfs made from 97-99.5.

The Accord is selling not because of the headlights, but because of the rest of the car. It's a fantastically engineered vehicle, and the interior is a very nice place to spend time. Too bad its turned into a bit of a boat.

My Corolla hasn't broken down once since 2001, it's been paid off for most of that time, and it's about as satisfying as masturbating with a boxing glove.

Im sorry but I agree with 1sicklex on this one. The new Accord sells because it a Honda. when you look at the overall package it's pretty medeocre. it's huge, not fuel efficient, is low on feature content when compared to it's competition and the styling is pretty ghastly at best (in sedan form). Now I can agree if someone said the coupe sells because it's a good package.
Honestly the new Malibu, Altima, Aura, and the upcoming Mazda6 are all vechilce I would buy over the Accord in a heartbeat. It's really funny, my GF's mom has an 05 Accord and wanted to trade up to the new one, but when she saw it she decided to keep her car in hopes that the next one is better.

The Accord is mediocre compared to what? It's VERY class competitive. In terms of fuel economy, it's actually the most fuel-efficient gasoline powered sedan of it's size, so I don't get what you're saying.
But I digress, this thread is actually about the new Maxima.

The correlation between current/former Volkswagen ownership and being an impolite douche-canoe is in the mild-positive range.

Hi, welcome to The Car Lounge. We all hate each other and argue about stuff. It's awesome.

The Malibu and new Mazda6 are the same size, the Camry is a few inches shorter, big deal.
The Accord's 4cyl is very efficent (I'm getting 27-30mpg in mixed driving) and it has all the features you'd expect to find on a mainstream family sedan.
Styling is subjective, no doubt, but the new Accord is a great family sedan and it's not a penalty box to drive either (my last 3 cars were Mazda6, Mazda Protege5, B5 Passat.)
dude shouldn't have been walking on the highway, but he shouldn't have been hit by 20 cars...that's a lot. I mean, I try to avoid dead squirrels in the road, never mind dead people.

Sorry, let me rephrase what I was trying to say. The Accord is a great car and I would recommend it as a vehicle that should be at the top of any buyer's short list. All i'm saying, based on this thread, is that there are (IMHO) better options on the in terms of styling and feature content......but again this is subjective.....the main reason that it sells so well is not because it's good looking or has all the right stuff. it sells well because it's a Honda, and it's an Accord which is a vehicle that has built up a huge following and reputation fas reliable transportation. Infact many Accord owners that I know of only shopped between 2 cars when they made their purchase....the Accord and the Camry....both of which are 2 of the dullest vehicles out there.

oh sorry that's not what I meant. I was gonna say, based on this thread anyone that drives an 08 Accord should not be calling the Maxima ugly.
all I said was that the Maxima's headlights were overdone and fussy imo. What I drive doesn't change that imo so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
