Impressive numbers. I may have to go test drive one. How many of these demos are floating around?

Speaking of media, did anyone get any pics? Especially of the white Honda Accord CrossTour in heat 1. As we always say, nearly anything can be autocrossed. ;-)
Why do they have to plaster "NOT A CONCEPT CAR" on the side?
It's German for, "DEAR GOD PLEASE COME TEST DRIVE THIS. WE REALLY NEED THE MARKET SHARE!"

I'm pretty positive the TDIs will pretty much sell themselves for sticker and up.
Especially since used 2006 TDIs are listing for $1000 to $2000 above brand new MSRP.
Yeah, but that does no good if the public doesn't know they can buy it. Hence the "Not a concept car!" labeling.

I think that might be the point. With gas running $4 and diesel running nearly $5 here in Texas, consumers are going to have to really do the math to see if it makes sense for them. I'm not convinced diesel right now is going to win the hearts of Americans over like I thought it would 2-3 years ago.

Yes, I'm sure there will be thousands of these left on dealer lots with $4 gas. Why do you hate on a car that so obviously is full of win?

Americans can't do math. All they see is that diesel is on average .50-60 cents more expensive than premium and they'll say "no thanks." They'll consider a Prius before they will a TDI, unfortunately.

Or...they can do the math just fine but they just plain don't want a diesel.

and for most people prius will make more sense, as it is a lot more efficient in stop and go traffic.
then again, 800mi range of a TDI passat wagon a friend owns is truly awesome.
So will there be EPA import quotas on these like there were on the '06 models? Otherwise, with the $/euro exchange rate being so poor, will VW "cap their losses" by only importing a limited number?
When I bought my '04 Passat wagon new, I could pay full MSRP for one of the few diesel models they brought in, or get a gasoline model for $5000 off. The choice was quite easy then.
The "Not a concept car" thing on the side is a bit presumptuous. It doesn't look anything like a concept car to me - it looks like a Jetta with a buncha retarded stickers all over it.
As for the powertrain and positive initial interested

They need to market it better somehow, put it in tv shows and movies, comparing it to a prius and showing what it's better at...
Ok, so what makes a stock diesel Jetta so much fun to drive since it's so apparent that it is?
140 horsepower and 235 lb/ft...?

[T]he new engine is much quieter and significantly more powerful. The extra 58 lb-ft of torque at just 1,800 r.p.m. is like a kick in the pants when starting off, and adds more passing power at revs below 4,000 r.p.m
