 Motive Quickie: 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged« »

For all that's new and revolutionary about the Jaguar XF, it's good to see that the company, in this period of transition, has found a way to pump genuine Lucas-brand electrical smoke back into the wires. That, or it's programmed a secret quirk machine and hidden it deep within the core of the car's structure. Not sure what else could account for my very British experience with the 2009 XF Supercharged.

"CATS SYSTEM FAULT," said the orange-tinted message between the gauges. What did that even mean? Were my catalytic converters melting? Perhaps the car's babe magnet was broken? That would explain why nary a single female has tossed herself spread-eagle onto the hood. I turned the car's new shift dial back to park and hit the big red kill button, then reversed the process to find the car back in working order. (In case you were wondering, CATS is the cheeky acronym for the XF's adaptive suspension.)

I don't know whether to congratulate you for skipping the obvious "cryptic CATS warning" reference, or berate you for missing it.

I ended up driving one of these ~ a month ago. OMG does that Supercharger make a difference. Wow, just wow!

If you want to keep your license, get a standard model. Repeat, do NOT drive the S/C model under any circumstances.

Yes Martha, you can get your new 2010 Toyota 4Runner with a 4-cylinder. As long as it's 2WD. And as long as it's with an old 4-speed automatic.

It seems that Jaguar bought VW's overstock GTI wheels and painted them silver:

I finally saw one in person the other day, and I just can't get over the looks.
The back end is OK (mainly because it is a rip of an AM), but the front doesn't fit. Their attempt to try a new look resulted in it coming off as a bit down market.

My Opinion

-Ugly wheels
-Too big a wheel gap
-Gas tank opening looks randomly slapped onto the side.
-Rear needs to be more chunkier see G35 or Lex GS after the c pillar
-Really wierd front end.

If this wasn't a Jag, I would think it is unequivocally gorgeous.

But it is, so I think it needs to be longer and lower.

Kinda like the original concept? Yeah, exactly.

My mind still can't completely accept this car as a Jag... Don't get me wrong, it looks great BUT all the Jaguars I've seen over the last decade or so have had a very similar style. This is such a drastic change from them that I almost have a hard time identifying this design as Jaguar... Seems like there's 10 years of evolutionary design that has been missed. Not that it's a bad thing.

I happen to like the wheels. Where would you like the gas tank cover to go?

And the wheel gap isn't that bad for a stock non performance model, the XF SC'd isn't an R model. The front gap isn't far off from an M5.

The front end is subjective, I'm in between on it. Could have been better and could have been worse.

Back in my day, they played these things called "music videos" on my MTV, and girls with big hair danced on the hoods of cars belonging to guys with bigger hair, and our parents--people Larry's age--thought it was scandalous.

Music videos? You mean like those old silent films where some guy in the theater played a piano with sharp dramatic high notes to signify a plot twist? I've heard about those, but I didn't know there were Jaguars and big hair involved. As for MTV, everyone knows that network launched with the first episode of the Real World. The whole "Music TV" thing is just a myth made by you old folks to make us young guys think you're cool.

Give me some credit, Brian. I was alive for [most of] the eighties.

Well if Jaguar contiues the typical trend, I'll pick one up in 5 years for about $7,000.

Great looking car.

-your wrong.

lol. No but really, I actually think this a great looking car. Could it be better by being more similar to the concept? Yes. But it still is a classically beautiful car that will age with grace.
