The masking is also kind of off-putting to me, too. But I wonder if this high-beltline look that has swept the industry is more than a fashion trend. The side-impact regulations worldwide may be dictating a "more metal/less glass" approach to doors and windows. Just a thought.
The rest of the Volt looks pretty fresh and interesting, and also seems to walk the fine line of not being too avant-garde, yet at the same time avoiding anonymity. Large numbers of people will find it very attractive, and that is the bottom-line.

I swear this car gets more boring every time I see new pictures of it. I understand they've designed it for better aerodynamics and all, but for being the car that is supposed to change the way we think about transportation it sure is uninspiring.

I'm not sure I like it. It's very tall and narrow, and the front end is very tall. Proportions look to be off. I'll wait until I see official shots without anonymous douchebags blocking the details to really consider it.

For the most part. If memory serves, it's also the cucumber capital of Japan. Hence the home-market ads for the FT-86 featuring Takeichi-kun, the cartoon cucumber whose meteoric rise through the underground drift world has shamed him in the eyes of his school-master.

But wait! The last pic is of Lutz!
I think it looks OK, definitely must look unique in order to be noticed in the marketplace, but I also can't really get a feel for it. Could be like the new Maxima which looks horrible in pics but great in person.

I am in fact quite cool. My graphing calculator confirms this.

I don't think so - Subaru has managed to avoid it, and they've been at the top of the class for side impact for a while. All the strength in those cars is in the pillar. I don't know how other car companies do it.

I bet some of it is the gansta thing and some of it is people's comfort in having more sheet metal wrapped around them. AND... I bet a lot has to do with the pedestrian hood impact regulation, which raises the hood height. If you raise that... you're going to have to raise the beltline to some extent or else something will start looking bizarro-world.
It's like how nearly ALL subcompacts are starting to look like the same micro-van profile with the swooping hood to windshield rake that has no difference at the interface (as far as angle difference goes). Those cars have high beltlines... AND rooflines... AND seat heights. All to give some semblence of visibility over the retarted hood angle and high cowl height.
Blech.
That is a gay color. I wish they would have chosen that rich blue from the other spy shots.

See, that's the thing, it's not gay, it's as depressingly hetero as all the schlubs posing with it. It's a color from a house in a HOA neighborhood. It's the color of a desperate housewife's eyeshadow. A gay dude would have picked a far cooler color.
Personally, I wanna see the ****er in Grabber Orange.

Cadillac called... they want their electric starter back. Caveman called... he wants his wheel back. Apple called... they want their iPod dash back. Mother Nature called... she wants her iron ore back. Lutz called... be wants his pose with the "Fist" back.
My HOA would hang anyone who tried to paint their house that color

Volta haunted Lutz; he wants his name back, plus his batteries. Ferdinand Porshe contacted us through a seance; he wants his series hybrid layout back.
It looks good, but it's a little hard to tell with aforementioned people in the way. I respect the people involved in any car design, I just wasn't aware their egos were so big they needed to be more central than the car (Chris Bangle notwithstanding.) That said, this car is what, two years away? It's going to need a minor model change before it's even on the market. No wonder Honda keeps such a tight lid on their cars before launch.

One of these days I'm going to break my computer screen punching you Corbic.
I want to know how many hours the mirror housings spent in the wind tunnel, those things look like thats all they have ever done, is be in a wind tunnel. Also, the rear end looks very interesting, around the taillights i see no panel gaps at all, not even rubber molding....
I like the look of it, some of the perspectives are weird, but i think the front only shot with bob lutz gives you a better idea of what it will look like than the side angle pics with dudes in them.
