Wolfsburg, 25 September 2008 - Between the first and fifth generations, more than 1.7 million Golf GTIs have been embraced by driving enthusiasts, making the GTI the best-selling hot hatch in the world. Now there is a new model on the starting block: At the Paris Auto Show (4 until 19 October 2008) Volkswagen presents the world premiere of the new Golf GTI Study.
The GTI's chassis, with its new electronic differential (XDS), redefines curves and traction completely. With its 150mph top speed and 210 HP turbo engine, the GTI still manages to travel 31.4 miles per gallon of gasoline.
In the spring 2009 the sixth Golf GTI will go into production - a single entity born from a sporty chassis and agile engine. By 1,800 rpm the engine develops a maximum torque of 207 lb-ft of torque. After 6.9 seconds is carried out the Sprint of 0 to 62 mph. Its top speed is drag limited to 150 mph.
Sitting 22 millimeters lower than a standard series Golf, the springs, absorbers and the rear stabilizers of the study were completely again co-ordinated. Beyond that, the GTI will offer Volkswagen's DCC dynamic chassic control system as an optional feature.
"We wanted a consistently clear GTI Design, a car which looks aggressive but is also stylish,“ says VW chief designer Volkswagen AG, Walter de'Silva. The Paris design study is the fusion of those two classically GTI design elements. The GTI V contributes the black honeycomb mesh grille and a hood which lowers over the headlights. The broad horizontal grille, meanwhile, harks back clearly to the GTI I.
I like the plaid, but I have my doubts that that'll ever make it state-side (not that I'm in the market for one anyway, but...)
Your car does not have soul, you just have a pitiful selection of adjectives in your vocabulary. -... .- -. - .- -... ..- .-.. .- I post useless garbage at http://twitter.com/salynch
Raptor Jesus, please provide us with hella sluts clad in pork garments, and whiskey of sufficient proof to kill off any trichinosis. PAH be your name, whatever and ever, amen.
This is smokin'. I love the interior. I will be at the dealership when these arrive.
If love remains, though everything is lost, we will pay the price but we will not count the cost. -Neil Peart Somehow it all went horribly wrong. I'm addicted to track!! Thank you, drive thru!!

The current GTI has cloth exactly like that. If anything seen there didn't make it here, it'd be the big bolsters on the seats which we could only get with leather in the current car.
Splinter - Team Post-Killing Ninja My decantering is delicate and courageous.
Considering that the front bumper, skirts and rear probably won't make it looking like that, I'd imagine that the finished car will look minimally different from what they have now.
1) XDS new electronic differential? Is it a kind of LSD?
2) The engine is rated at 210Hp and 207 lbs of torque... What the............ This is a big let down. Everyone was talking about 211hp AND 258 lbs-tq...... This is too low we need something with more juice to face the competition.
3) This thing looks 90% the same as my 2007 Gti, the power output is almost the same, same wheel, same side, same back (except for the dual pipe), same hood, same seat and 75% of the interior is about the same.
So why as an buyer would I sell my car in a rush to buy this thing... I have no incitative at all, I wont change my car only because the front is different I could easily swap this front on my car.
Maybe I'm the only one... but the front end of the car just doesn't flow with the rest of the car from the bumper/headlights and back. The front is very angular and aggressive, looks cool too. There's lots of detail going on that give it character. But then as the car flows towards the back it kind of softens and rounds out. They tried to cover some of that by allowing for indented side skirts, but that aggressiveness is still lost in the softness of the rest of the body.
JMP.
"We be jammin' now, mon!" Billy said, toasting The Breeze with a slosh of the Coors. The Breeze shook his head balefully. "Keep the can down, watch the road, let me roll the doobie," he said. "Sorry, Breeze," Billy said. "I'm just stoked that we're on the road."
I'm surprised they couldn't be bothered to redesign the wheels.
If you are going to introduce a new version of your most covented model, at least re-design the wheels. However, with that being said, I do like the potato slicers!
The detail in the headlights is impressive!

And I know my offspring will have the same genes. So they're going to get an underpowered car similar to my Protege. Said car will have the best street brake pads, a staggered wide wheel setup (8" up front, ten in the back), and will have a very restrictive intake and exhaust. And a picture of me on the dash, with a furrowed brow.
I like it and all, but it's hardly a new generation of GTI. It'd be like calling the Sonata refresh a new generation model; they're both merely comprehensive refreshes.
If the .:R version comes out and looks anything like this, I'll have me a new car.
and if it comes with a manual we can carpool to the dealership.

I guess you could say driving a GT-R is like playing a first-person shooter game with God mode enabled. Most people find it boring but some do it anyway. Driving a Viper is more like playing tag in real life with your friends in the city Hue during Tet Offensive.
Exterior is a big improvement, but interior is insanely good.

I disagree. This is the new GTI, just like the Golf 5 GTI Design Study was exactly the same as the production version.
The one-piece front bumper is intriguing, but will likely send shockwaves through the aftermarket, since now you'll need a new front bumper for that cool new "front lip".
