Boost. No, it's just not a crappy energy drink or lame synonym for car theft. Boost from a supercharger or turbocharger, paired with smaller displacement engines and often all-wheel drive, is a shared theme in a genre of cars born out of the WRC. There's a generation of kids who grew up on PlayStation rally games, saved up for their first WRX or Evo, and now are ready to take the next step. It is this rally generation — one not unfamiliar with the idea of natural resource conservation or the need to be greener, who should be most interested in the 2010 Audi S4.
My only gripe is the "V6T" badge should have been "V6S" or "Supercharged" like the Motive author notes. Also I don't know what it is but I've never liked "High-back buckets" in a sedan. They are fine in a 2+2 coupe or Roadster but sort of cheapen a luxury sport oriented sedan IMO. I also home the V6 growl is mean like an R32 because V8 sounds are hard to trump.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
This place is is insane - the biggest complaint I hear in the Car Lounge is that VW's are too expensive when loaded up with options and yet when they want to decontent and lower the price, the complaints get even louder. You can't have it both ways.
Yuck. The yellow one is nasty, mainly because of the wheels.
I agree, those wheels are awful. The RS4-like wheels are beautiful, however.
I'm now very anxious to drive this car. If the Drive Select really is so great, I can't wait to see what kind of a difference it makes. I only hope such a system makes it into all Audi's, if at the very least all S/RS models.

I think that was you Chris. I didn't get you on the front half of the course (obviously), but followed you around. I actually even got you in further opposite correction up on the far end of the course, but the lower 3/4 of the car was totally obstructed so I trashed the photo.
Congratulations on the baby! She looks beautiful in the pics. I'm glad you were able to get home in time.
i would have liked to see a "k" for kompressor, but maybe that would be a little too M.B.
is that breakdown of the expected 40:60 manual:automatics sold a world wide estimate or a U.S. estimate?
also, how does the Imola Yellow look in person? do the pictures not do it justice or is it too subjective?
cool write up George! thanks!
I like Imola Yellow on another guy's car, but not mine. It looks good and livens up the exterior, but the S4 looks MUCH better with bigger wheels like our white photo shoot car.
40:60 split is a US figure. It was 50:50 on the B7.

I drive an ADS S5 daily. It's cool kit for sure and I recommend it, but wasted money if you're planning on doing a suspension upgrade. The really interesting bit here is the Sport Differential, and hopefully they'll package that separately or make it standard equipment. That is the element that likely makes this the drift king that it is... although I must admit that I did not drive it in a non-ADS car.
I'm starting to like this vehicle more and more. I will be interested in reading some more reviews of this car as well as some comparo tests. Hopefully in a few years when I'm looking for another vehicle, I can find an affordable version of this vehicle in the used market. I recently spent a bit of time behind the wheel of both a 335 and 135 and love the motor in that car. I'm very curious as to how Audi's blown motor feels in comparison.

"Off-the-record early estimates at EPA figures put the car at 17 mpg city / 26 mpg highway for the 6-speed manual transmission car and 17 mpg city / 27 mpg highway for those fitted with Audi’s new 7-speed S-tronic."
For the record, before the sandy-vag "omg not enough powarz and torks" crowd shows up, this is why they went with this V6 and this output. This car will be an entire tax bracket below its competitors in Europe. That amounts to several thousand euro a year in saved taxes.
S4 w/ S Tronic to me sounds like the perfect daily.
Very bland looking and I still dont like Audi's new grille...

Well, they're not exactly building it for you. They're building it for their customer base, who all wanted a little more height and a little more rear seat room. They're not buying the ***** so that people who have no intention of actually buying one can approve of them while rolling by in their VW's
With what this car is going to have to cost, I'd consider it for exactly .0000002 seconds before walking right past it and going to the Cadillac dealer for a CTS-V for the same money.
I really like the new S4 as well. Seems like a perfect daily driver I just wish we got the avant option.
Nice write up George, the lead shot in the article really compliments the B8's lines Mike
"Ferraris are serious cars for serious people who drive around wearing a serious expression. The Gallardo can do serious, too. It has Audi electrics and Audi engineering. But as you careen towards the next bend on a wave of extraordinary sound, half blinded by your own upholstery, you’ll be making the noise of a howler monkey and wishing you were naked" The one and only Jeremy Clarkson
my gripe is simply on the badging - T vs. S, despite Audi's "T for anything forced induction argument." Kind of silly, no?
I do like Motive's "thoopercharged" deduction though
Beyond that...iunno...something about the A4 with A5 overtones just doesnt do it for me. The A5 is significantly more svelte, and the tailights and headlights seem to work better. I dont know why, but for the first time in more than a decade, I am finding it hard and harder to "get it uo" for VAG products. Visually speaking, the only forth-coming VAG product doing anything for me is the mk6 GTI.
Yeah, but even if you're one of the <200 a year who bought them, Audi unfortunately saves much more keeping their complexity and model proliferation down and giving up under 200 sales. So many people say what you say, but it doesn't seem to add up in cars moved off of dealer lots. It's a shame. I love the S4 Avant. I am though, perhaps, part of the typical problem. I love the Avant, but I ordered a sedan when I got my 2007.

To me, very few modern Audi designs look nearly as good on screen or paper as they do in person. The lines are almost too complex. As a photographer, you have to stand there and really take the car in and look for the right angles. As noted with the lead shot above, that is a strong angle. Time of the essence and being pelted by ocean spray and eventually rain, I simply shot a lot from a bunch of angles and gave more prominence to the better ones in the article. You can see from the gallery though that there are a lot of angles to choose from.
The A4 is quite handsome for a sedan to me, but doesn't compete with the A5/S5, which is much superior. The A4 is longer for back seat packaging, taller and not as wide thanks to the scaleable MLP platform set. The A5 is optimized for looks and proportion, whereas the A4 has a more utilitarian role to fill.
