This ecotec motor has a lot of similarities to the 2.0T FSI... mechanical fuel pump, direct injected, turbocharged, etc.
The car itself is a lot of bang for the buck, it goes, stops and corners amazingly well for just over 20k. Insane brembo brakes, LSD, 6 speed, 250hp.... The interior leaves something to be desired, but I guess you can't have everything.
I'm trying to convince Synapse to build a 2.0T FSI kit
They must be holding on for dear life when they punch the gas.
The car is awesome but that's a ton of power for FWD. Hopefully the Cruze will remedy the interior and exterior because it's hard to spend money on the car right now, regardless of performance.
But for folks looking for a cheap performance car, this is it.
Looks like that would be a hoot to drive. Really like the styling of the coupe too. If I were in the market for a new car I would be looking long and hard at this one.
I went sat down in one yesterday. MSRP: $24915 (w/ LSD), no hassle price: $22476.92. They also have a $1500 cash rebate, plus I might get a military discount. Really good price; if they had 0% or low % financing I'd get it, but the best they offer is a 6+%.
Looking to swap my 09 VW Rabbit lease. Free maintenance for the next 3 years. Contact me for details.
Its a brilliant setup. With this kit, the car runs and drives like a stock car, until you beat on it - then watch out.
Nothing is sacrificed, not even MPG (it gets 28 - 30 average, the fuel map is stock under normal driving). You've got AC, power steering, a decent stereo - its a killer setup
We've built two of these GT3071R 2.0TFSI VWs to date and each is DSG. 380-hp to the front wheels and almost zero torque steer. Wheelspin, yes, but no torque steer
All boasting aside, it's great to see companies stepping up to working with the GM 2.0T. It's a great engine with tons of headroom.

How much does it cost and what are you doing about fuel (pump/injectors)?

That seems to be the favorite. All of the 400whp+ Mazdaspeed cars I know of use a GT3071R.

More and more evidence is piling up that Europeans are nothing more than Americans with more colorful money and funny accents.

It costs more than $3999, I can tell you that Going past the 350-whp mark with these engines requires upgraded rods and that adds to the cost as you might imagine.
As for fueling, the APR modified rail pump + OE RS4 injectors are good for well over 500-whp.

It's the perfect turbo for today's DI turbo engines. It's a big turbo for a 1.8T, but the 2.0s extra displacement, higher CR, and direct injection means a 3071 spools almost as quickly as a 2860 but has headroom to 400-whp+.
OP: sorry for the highjack! Please post up more on Cobalt!
As for the interior... its not TERRIBLE, but it is certianly not class leading either. But, as long as they fixed the infamous dash crack, and it doesnt squeak anywhere near the amounts of J-bodies did, I would certianley want one of these.

Gotcha. We have a MK5 GTI and I would love to run a setup like this, but the cost makes me ill. The cost wouldn't be so bad if the stock fuel system could handle the power the way the Cobalt's can.

Yup. $4k vs. $7k... But does the Synapse kit include the I/C upgrade (ours does)?
Either way, GM has built one fine engine and we'd love to get our hands on one some time soon.
I honestly love the new cobalt ss's. They have sachs suspension also. All my friends are like dude its still a cobalt and I say watch out these things are gonna be insane, once the aftermarket comes out. Too bad they dont have an awd one hehe.
The more you know the more you know, you dont know. ~HALF3VIL~

Oh please
I've driven a 500+ FWHP honda that stayed perfectly straight with no torque steer. Traction bars are the secret, keeps the control arms from deflecting.
That's one hell of a deal. Software upgrade too? What management does this engine use?
And if I read correctly, a 2871R is being used, right? T25 hot-side? If so, has a 3071R T25 been tried?
Yes, T25 hotside. Tuning is done with HP Tuners, the kit includes the run file, which can be uploaded by anyone with HP Tuner. You can do it yourself (need to buy HP Tuner), or Synapse can do it, or a local shop / HP Tuner dealer.
