SSC Ultimate Aero updated, now with 1287 hp and 270 MPH« »

http://www.egmcartech.com/2008...0-mph/

Quote, originally posted by eGMCarTech »
The SSC Ultimate Aero is officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest road-going car in the world. Shelby Supercars has now updated the Ultimate Aero for the 2009 model year giving it a 15 percent increase in horsepower, a revamped front fascia design, and a couple of interior upgrades.

The most significant change however is the 1-piece billet aluminum engine block which improves structural integrity and oiling capabilities allowing the Ultimate Aero to produces a total of 1,287-hp - up from 1,183-hp. We understand that you can never have enough horsepower but at what point does having too much horsepower become illegal for the road.

Either way, Shelby Supercars says that the 2009 Ultimate Aero will be able to reach world-record speeds of 270 mph beating its current record of 257 mph.

It took them 1183hp to hit 257mph. I don't think they can hit 270mph with only 100 more hp.

What tires are they planning on using that will last the duration it takes to get to 270 and back down? I'd be ****ting bricks the entire time.

Shouldn't matter. Weight doesn't play much of a factor when it comes to attaining speeds like that.

Tires?

"We be jammin' now, mon!" Billy said, toasting The Breeze with a slosh of the Coors.
The Breeze shook his head balefully. "Keep the can down, watch the road, let me roll the doobie," he said.
"Sorry, Breeze," Billy said. "I'm just stoked that we're on the road."

I am reminded of a Top Gear quote from when they took the Veryon to top speed

Clarkson: "You know how when you take a Lambo or Ferrari to top speed"
May: *blank stare*
Clarkson: "Well no you don't. But the point is that everything shakes and rattles like its falling apart. Because you are right on the brink of what is physically possible"
May: "That's funny, I didn't get any of that"

That is what I see when I look at this car. No matter what numbers it puts down, not matter what feat of engineering it might be, it still looks like a kit car put together in some guys basement...

...and the drive probably reflects that.

yeah and have the driver tell us how easily it achieved it. Unlike all the other supercars....the Veyron NEVER breaks a sweat no matter how fast its going.

the ease at which the Veyron reaches top speed is what all the other companies forget to incorporate into there cars.

The Veyron will always be the top speed/acceleration king.

Unless some other big manufacturer decides to spend billions of dollars engineering their own loss-leader flagship. The Veyron isn't just about scalded cat/raped ape speed, it's all about the civilized manner in which it functions, as befits a hyper-GT.

No teeny outfit, building butt ugly race cars, with naught but the thinnest veneer of street legality, will ever come close.

you notice how there is no mention of what tire they used for testing/production!

I doubt this thing has ever run over 230mph...not that its not fast but i bet they are just calculating the top speed.

Like i said before its a waste unless its done with EASE like with the

VEYRON!!!
