In case anyone is looking for a deal on a cheap fast hatch...
I was browsing through the "domestics with manual transmissions category" to see if there were any deals and stumbled upon this Caliber SRT-4. It is new and $16,769, or over $10k off sticker! Pretty cheap for that amount of power (285 hp/265 lb/ft).
if my credit wasn't TOTALLY screwed, i'd be hard pressed NOT end up financing one of these! throw on some lowering springs, and do some free mods with the intake/exhuast and call it a day! they're based of the weeny Calibers with the dsg trans. which on the base model sounds like a tranny on it's last leg, slippin baaad. but i can only imagine how fast you could make this thing, with the dsg auto and turbo! the linear power curve i bet has to be very impressive!
lots of people hate this thing, and i cant stand the base calibre, but the srt-4 is an entirely different car. hate it or not, i dont care. I love the little bastid!

I'd hit both this and AND the MS3 WAAAAAAY before even thinking about the GTI. Especially with the new lifetime powertrain warranty from Dodge/Chrysler

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL A DISTRIBUTOR IS BUT IT MAKES THIS HOT PIECE START UP LIKE YOU JAMMED YOUR KEY UP A TIGER'S ASS. HELL,
Yuck... No visibility, and unfortunately people can still see you drive it; besides, who likes cheap plastic?

Once on a 5 day spring break trip to Daytona, I tried for 100 beers over the 5 days. I'm a great big bear of a guy. 20 a day with no down time? I got to 44 and had to sit out for a day, and then made another 40 before I met the girl of my dreams. At least I think it was a girl. Never go to a zoo drunk.
Man the color his hideous, the only palatable color for the SRT Caliber is black. I would probably hit it for $10K but not $16K

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
6 ppl said this car sucks so far 4 of them own VW GTI's... did the emkay4 forum close?
And only two of them have "emkay 4's"

This is actually a phenomenal deal. If only it didn't look so darned akward.
Point taken, but it looking odd has nothing to do with how little you can see out of it when sitting in one. Seeing out the rear/side windows is almost as bad as a new land cruiser. The there are the beetle Esq A-pillars that block forward visibility and ungodly amount of plastic dash before you get to the windshield.

Not a fan of it's looks or interior but performance wise it does have the GTI beat so money to hp it's a good deal.
If money to HP where everything we would all be driving low buck, rattle can painted, Camaro's and Mustangs with worked engines. But day to day usability is something to look forward to in this "hot hatch". With its exterior size being what it is it hardly has much more usable room compared to the prior srt-4 it replaces.
Besides, how good will that "lifetime warranty" be if Chrysler bites the dust?

its insane that people are that rich and egotistical that they would actually cover their cars in precious metal...the amount of $ they must have to conceive of that as an option is mind bottling.
Dude, the CSRT-4 gangbanged the GTi around the track. The only reason they made the interior so nice in the GTi was so you'd be occupied with soft touch materials instead of realizing how slow your car is.

we had a base as a rental, and the blind spots inside are there... more so then an average compact. but to those who say they dont like the interior, i found it quite conftorable and liked it. besides its kinda of plasticy, the layout is nice, you can pull the center armrest out more so that your kind of surrounded by the interior. i like that in a car.
And as for akward, i dont see the SRT-4 Calibre beign akward, it actually looks quite aggressive. Lower that thing, and in black. lil bastid looks pretty evil... there alot of hate for this car, but like is said before i like it.... and @ 16k. you can't get anymore car for the money. no way. it's a steal @ 16 IMO!

For the most part. If memory serves, it's also the cucumber capital of Japan. Hence the home-market ads for the FT-86 featuring Takeichi-kun, the cartoon cucumber whose meteoric rise through the underground drift world has shamed him in the eyes of his school-master.

I NEED ONE, i will give up my firstborn, once its born, for this car
So says the guy that has the base model...

I'm slowly beginning to think that VW owners are absolutely mind washed. Have fun with your worthless little 1.8 and 2.0t's. begging and pleading for 13's

Yes Martha, you can get your new 2010 Toyota 4Runner with a 4-cylinder. As long as it's 2WD. And as long as it's with an old 4-speed automatic.
crap build quality, but where else can you get near 300hp for 16 grand?
there are many other cars that i would rather have used then buying this car new. If you plan on modifying cars, like i always do, then warranty is hardly a factor anyway.
hell my car was only around 13k and its an 06. the caliber is so ugly it makes my forester look good. no easy task.
i'd rather have a neon srt4 too. pretty much equally bad interior, but MUCH nicer exterior, and without a doubt better handling capabilities (many people are complaining that the caliber's proportions will never allow it to be a track machine on the same level as the last srt4).
it should tell you something when you can get all that power for such little money. it tells you that the car is built like crap, with a crap interior, crap appearance, crap ride quality, crap comfort, crap sound isolation, crap vibration isolation, and just overall crap...except of course for its out of the box acceleration and handling characteristics, which are the only factors that make this car at all desirable.
Concentrated power is not rendered harmless by the good intentions of those who create it.
I'm slowly beginning to think that VW owners are absolutely mind washed...
Don't knock it to you try it.
