I'd venture a guess as to the fact they were originally intended to be ordered by funeral homes, to be used as flower cars. As such, it wouldn't really be anything out of the ordinary. *shrug*

Personally... I think it's neat.

2001 Mercedes E320 PICKUP TRUCK, Only 3 Of Them Built By Mercedes !!!!!!!!!!! 2 Of Them Made It To The USA. It's Built On An E320 Limo Chasis, Perfectly Executed By Mercedes. All 4 Seats Are Power, 8605 Original Miles, Ordered From Germany By Atlanta Classic Cars. It's Stunning In Every Way You Look At!!!!!!! MINT CONDITION!! Offered @ $$ 49900.00 .

Uhhhh, scam?

Seems to me that they have to claim it was a factory-made car to recoup some of the costs of making a baja e-class (probably was very expensive), and being able to list it at nearly 50k (when you can just pretty much buy a new one?).

...or am I mistaken and did Mercedes actually build this?

If they did, it would be a prototype and why would the prototype of a car manufactured in Germany be registered and for sale in the U.S.?

So, no.

Further look at the Carfax for this vehicle doesn't add up:

12/31/2008 Mercedes-Benz USA, Inc. No recalls open for repair

Why the heck was an one-off vehicle built by Mercedes and of only 2 making it to the US be sold new at a Georgia dealership, then shortly thereafter exported into and reimported from Mexico? And I didn't know that a humble Mercedes dealer in Georgia could manage to order one-off custom cars from the factory that Mercedes built only 3 of.

Update:

Probably a Binz conversion. So either way its misrepresentation. Mercedes Benz did not manufacture this vehicle.

It's not humble, they probably do the second most business in the southeast.

P-chop it with a 16 inch lift, some 33s, and a mild crawler suspension.
I bet it would look good enough to put it in the "Doing it Wrong" thread.
