It's St. Patricks Day - Ireland's impact on the auto world « » 12:28 PM 3-17-2009
Since it is St. Patricks Day, I am celebrating my 1/3 (roughly) Irish roots. How about some Irish automotive influence?

Sterotypical as it may sound, but several members of my family have heavily contributed to the phrases road pop, open container, road rage and dui. Space for rent. Deposit required.

Though John Dunlop (who invented the pneumatic tire) was born in Scotland, his company was founded in Dublin, and first began production of pneumatic tires in Belfast in 1890.
Dunlops tire has obviously had a huge impact on the auto world, and arguably made the automobile possible (though it was originally invented for bicycles).

If my dad is 100% irish and my mom is 50% scottish, 25% irish and 25% Italian... I think that's 62.5% Irish 12.5% Ital 25% Scot
I always wanted to figure the math out in that and I finally figured it out.
God damn Italians always butting in.

You'll get slapped if you order one that way in Dublin. It's called a boilermaker.
Or if you want, just order a whole pint of guinness, drink half of it and then order a shot of baileys... same price at most places.

This.
it's criminal how much trendy bars will charge for a half pint of guinness and shot of bailey's.

well, this is a '*****' irish Boilermaker though. you need the shot of Jameson too. Again, if you want to do it right, order 2 pints of Guinness, two rounds of Baileys straight up (not in shot glasses) and two rounds of Jameson straight up
two solid rounds of that in a bar will get you pretty happy.
The simple shot o baileys and Guinness works in a pinch and it IS delicious. But you miss the flavor of the whiskey which is KEY
In retaliation to the US people calling it an 'Irish Car Bomb' those in the Isles call it a '911'
I watched some US dude-guy get tossed ass over tea kettle into the street in Dublin for ordering a 'car bomb'
They don't **** about.

I had heard about these cars but never found a pic of them. I was beginning to think someone had been telling stories.
Now go find a pic of a Ford Cortina 'Cashel' or 'Corrib' and you'll really impress me!

What happens if you insist on a shamrock on your Guinness?

That's not a problem at all.
It's stuff like 'Black & Tans' that piss me off esp. as my Grandmother walked into the kitchen as a 5yr old to see her Father on his knees with a gun to his head held by a real Black & Tan.
