I'd rather have my pubes spontaneously combust than daily drive a truck.
Must not have ever drove a SVT lighting. Your hair would be in fire from disbelief.
Gen 2 SVT L That said, They are very fun. Quick, sound good, fun to drive, respond well to mods, basically do everything a fun car can do but you can haul stuff with it.
As far as maintenance, mine has never been to the dealer since new. Just basic oil, trans fluid, brakes, and fuel filter changes at home.
I don't DD mine now, but I did and it was fine. The MPG's are not that good. ~12-18MPG.
Little factory blower love:
Gen 1 SVT L Great 351W motor, good handling, low maintenance, good ones are getting harder to locate.

Wow. Someone is very comitted to their bias, aren't they!
Drive one, daily one, love the feeling of 5000lbs shooting forward far faster than it should.

I believe I saw this at the Toronto Int Motor Show a few years back in the flesh, what a gorgeous truck. Probably the best looking pickup I've ever seen, although I'm digging the latest Saleen trucks as a replacement for this
while very tunable the motors are not nearly as robust as the 03cobra etc etc

It's a fast pickup truck. I'd kill for one, but the fuel economy is terrifying. I've heard some tunes for the truck eat the trannies, but I'm sure any 'Ning forum will tell you the good from the bad.
For the most part. If memory serves, it's also the cucumber capital of Japan. Hence the home-market ads for the FT-86 featuring Takeichi-kun, the cartoon cucumber whose meteoric rise through the underground drift world has shamed him in the eyes of his school-master.
Looked great, handled well all things considered. Great torque, which with the heavy duty transmission, always felt like you were tearing up the road behind you. Seats are nice for a truck, reliable otherwise.
Got horrible mileage with premium fuel(11-13mpg)... Possibility that your sparkplugs will "self eject"(this happened on mine)... The radio is pretty lousy too.
Overall I really enjoyed the truck, it's a manly vehicle that is pretty unique.

The Ford GT engine is the same as the GT500 engine, only with a dry sump setup and a different blower. The 03/04 Cobra engine is the same as well, only 4.6 vs. 5.4. There have been a million revisions of the 4v heads, but for all intents and purposes, all of the 4v heads are the same from 03 to the present.
The Lightning engine is a 5.4 SOHC motor with an Eaton roots-type blower (Same blower as the 03/04 Cobras, pretty much).

Also, the GT block is aluminum but the 03/04 Cobra block is iron, as are the Lightning and GT500.

I would agree if I had pubes......however that leads to this statement of truth.

I have a feeling you've never been at the wheel of a Lightning.
They are a blast to drive, I hated these when they came out but what a fun vehicle to drive. This falls totally under the category of guilty pleasure for me. If you can DD it where you live and you like the look, I say do it. Great performance for the money and you get a little utility if you need it, and something that not everyone has.
